Based on how I think they’ll turn out once they all retire.

Ex: I know Jack Hughes sucks right now but I still think he’s gonna have a really solid career

I’d probably drop laf past ekblad then re-do bottom three to nuge-hischier-Hughes. Hughes debut didn’t set the world on fire so has to prove he’s better and the ones I’d rank ahead of laf have all done something tangible at the nhl level.

Solid list. I think Hughes ends up with a RNH-type career. Jumping straight from the USHL to the NHL was huge step, and it's unsurprising that his numbers were what they were.

I don't disagree with the top 3 at all, but I just want to point out how crazy is it that if Matthews continues on his current goal-per-game pace, he'd be top 10 all time, but still only be considered as the 3rd best during this decades worth of 1OA's!

Yeah there’s an argument for that. I get a #1D is more valuable than a #1 wing but I’m really excited to see Laf play in the NHL. I just think he’s such a game changer. I hope to god rangers don’t bury him on the third line

I think Hughes sophomore season *should* be much better than his rookie year. Everyone expected him to set the world on fire, since he was 1OA, but looking back, the jump from the USHL to the NHL is ridiculous. I feel like the list of players who go straight from USHL to the NHL, skipping the NCAA/AHL completely, is extremely short.

You’re right Laf obviously hasn’t done anything at NHL level yet, but I definitely think he’s gonna have a better career than the guys I listed him above. Hall does have a hart trophy but really struggled with consistency. I think Laf is gonna be a better, more dynamic, more consistent hall.

I agree completely. He wasn’t NHL ready but since he was a first overall pick they played him. I think he’ll be better than people expect at the moment.

There is an argument for Matthew’s vs mackinnon forsure, especially comparing them at the same point in their career. In 2016/17 mackinnon kinda looked like a disappointing first overall pick, and that the avs probably should’ve taken Barkov. He then EXPLODED in 17/18 and has stayed at or above that level ever since. He really elevated his game to another level when a lot of people (myself included) didn’t think he was ever gonna be a true elite talent.

I agree he will be better but I’m trying combo potential with accomplishment, those guys I’d put ahead of laf have played key roles so far and still have potential to get better.

It’s true he should be much better but everyone else(aside from laf) has put up at least decent numbers.

Cheers! I'm not arguing his placement...I think he's exactly where he likely ends up on the list.
