yup, hes a stud. Scored 11 more goals than shooter EP this year.
He’s also extremely one dimensional and doesn’t control a game the way EP (or malkin) can. Don’t get me wrong Connor is a good player, but he’s not at this level.
Connor immediately gets cut and then it’s a toss up between Scheifele Marner Huberdeau Aho
I don’t really think EP is clearly better than any of those guys honestly, he doesn’t have a 35 goal pace nor a point per game season yet, and while numbers aren’t everything, it’s not unreasonable to expect a star offensive player with a great shot to meet those thresholds imo. He’s in the conversation for sure, and will likely be a lock in 1-2 years, but right now he’s a fringe guy for this list. Malkin should obviously kick out Connor, and then you have the tier of guys like Scheifele, Aho, Barkov, Marner, Huberdeau, Barzal, Pettersson fighting for four spots, but if I’m being honest I’d take Stamkos and Marchand in two of those spots over all of them pretty easily (Stamkos was on pace to smash 40 goals and 90 points as usual and still has a top 5 most dangerous shot imo, while Marchand is still a 100pt excellent 2-way guy with the added annoying factor as bonus). My last two would probably be the Panthers but I could see arguments for any of the seven I mentioned and won’t waste energy arguing one way or the other, they’re all fairly close for various reasons.

I missed Marchand. He definitely makes it. As for stamkos it’s just injuries that worry me. Just because his have been so severe and he still may not even be ready to play come January.
I get EP hasn’t put up crazy numbers yet but his analytics are great and he’s also fun to watch as well. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he puts up a 90+ point pace this year (short season).
And 4 points in 8 playoff games the last 2 seasons. Easy cherry picking to do points per game with Malkin. He can't stay healthy. If this was a list for best players for first 50 games of the year he would probably make it.
The post stipulates just "best players" nothing more
A guy could play 10 games a year and be on the list
A lá Karlsson in 12-13 when he only played 17 games and still finished 3rd on his team in D scoring lol
Malkin still has a dark blue Skatr chart (Dblue = elite)
Price has a .910 sv% since 2017 which is mediocre
Research is good
There have been analytical arguments for Price suggesting the quality of shots faced has been pretty high so maybe he's a bit above average at best?
Geno had a higher P/60 than Draisaitl last season
Thanks for agreeing with me? Not sure why you quoted my post there. I was pointing out the flaw in his argument for including Price (great historically, meh recently) and not Malkin (great historically, still great now, and even though he argued he’s not as good now, which is also wrong, I was addressing the longevity argument as other people already pointed that out).

I can't see it. Not any that have the longevity he's had. I almost had Gibson in but not yet.
Price is 56th in the league when looking at goals saved above average over the past three seasons. If he is locked in, he's amazing, but he's been mostly average at best since signing his extension.
