Description
Alright, so we trade for Hall, and sign Duclair and Hamonic. We also shed Loui, all at the expense of Virtanen, Gaudette, and Joulevi. Gaudette's trade is justified because the Canucks already have so much upcoming talent, they won't be able to afford all of them. Gaudette has a great contract so his demand is sky high. Duclair takes Virtanen spot on Horvat's RW, an obvious upgrade. Hall goes in Pearson's spot, another huge upgrade offensively, and Pearson can play on either the 3rd line (with Motte and MacEwan) or 4th line (with Beagle and Sutter) with Roussel playing on the other. I put him on the third line because the 4th line is nearly always used in defensive situations, and that is not Roussel's bright spot. Pearson will still be able to chip into PP2, and maybe also on the PK. There is also a lot of cusion room for injuries. We have MacDermid for RD, Baertchi for LW, and Hawryluk for C and LW. Not to mention prospects like Hoglander, Rathbone, Rafferty, and Lind who will all be trained for an NHL role, possibly as soon as 2022. Hopefully we will also get Podkolzin by then. And finally, the sweetest touch, we will have 31 Million Dollars in cap space, enough to sign Hughes, Petey, and Demko, and also maybe get Pearson or someone else to add into the talent, until Hoglander and Podkolzin are fully ready.

Taylor Hall isn't gonna comeback to Buffalo, and they know it. Halfway through the year, they pull of 1st round pick and third line centre. Canucks probably can't afford Gaudette anyway, with all the upcoming stars. ANd once Hoglander and Podkolzin get settled, Gaudette won't even be that critical. Olli could be a long term addition to Buffalo's defense, and it would be a great help to their re-build

I'm not giving up 3 solid pieces for a rental. Just wait until the next offseason and sign either RNH or Schwartz. There is also no need to move Eriksson right now either

I don’t think Vancouver will be in a position to be buyers at the TDL. They don’t really have a good roster.

Top 2-3 canadian division, maybe behind Toronto and possibly Calgary, if Marky is still as sharp

Nobody in Vancouver is interested in short-term success. Which is what you're gonna have if you start trading picks and prospects. Be patient and use the cap space to sign someone in the offseason instead

Except it isn't now or never this core is much younger than the 2011 core you just need to smart about the supporting cast now and build a team for sustained success.

We made the same mistakes with Stecher. We just couldn't afford him. We may be able to be good in the long term, but with Petey and Hughes taking huge contracts, we will be stuck and never TRUE contender's, always 2nd round exits

Ottawa already 7th, 6th would be Jets, 5th Canadiens or Oilers, the other being 4th. 3rd Calgary, 2nd Vancouver, 1st Toronto (loses 1st round again because of the curse)

Idk Vancouver has the worst starting goalie in the division. No team is taking on the bad contracts. Forward depth is a concern.

You only have 20 players. Those three healthy scratches count against the cap and you don’t have room for them. You’ll use another $2.1MM in cap space for three league minimum players.

Actually, Hall wanted a long term deal in Buffalo and the team only offered 1-year, so your theory of him not wanting to stay doesn’t hold water. Not to mention, if he didn’t want to be here, he wouldn’t have signed.

The team offered a 1 year and a 2 year deal and he chose 1 year. Doesn't mean he doesn't want to stay long term, but he had 2 years on the table.

I'm hoping its a great match and they extend him before the deadline. But if not this is a good return.

No reason to assume that Buffalo has no hope of resigning Hall. The beauty of the 1 year contracts is less players exposed to Seattle Expansion. I genuinely believe they would let Reinhart go before they would not resign Hall because Reinhart is an RFA that they can get a return on. The long-running narrative of "no one ever signs or resigns in Buffalo" gets changed by them being a competitive hockey team which they have made huge steps to accomplish this offseason. With that being said I could totally see them moving Hall if it isn't working out and I can also see them pulling and "Aroldis Chapman" and dealing him at the deadline for assets and then signing him back in the offseason. Kevyn Adams is not Jason Botterill or Tim Murray.

LE 50% retained should not cost more than a second... so LA's bottom pairing D-man costs JV, JT and a 4th??? no chance...
also agree with most other people here VAN is not trading 1st rounders for rentals at this point, JTM had 5 years for the first VAN handed over for him, NS has 6 years. VAN is looking to solidify a core before hitting the rental market. they also have no hope of signing TH next season so pass on both of these.
