Description
Bored so felt like making a leafs post seeing as thats always the best way to get something started

Leafs are obviously doing well by the coming seasons TDL and so they make a move to improve the team with the hopes of plowing through the seasons final stretch and getting a high seed.

Players are coming in solely as rentals as the leafs cannot afford to keep the two players unless they sign amazing team friendly deals in '21

I think we've discussed this before but I think both Foligno and Bonino could fetch a 1st. That said, I would swap a 2nd for a 3rd. Or move the 2021 1st to a 2022. But I think its still a good deal for MIN.

yeah - with the balanced pick that was supposed to be there originally it could be less "acceptable" for minny but this solely rentals, as the leafs would not be able to keep both players unless they sign great deals. I do think Bonino would be a perfect fit for the leafs, which would be intriguing to see them workout IRL

only reason i went with 2021 (because i did think about it) was that it allows minny to have 3 picks in 2021 which would be amazing - and then they would have potential to get 4-5 1st if they trade dumba and other assets. 2021 is going to be very good inside the top 20 mainly that top 10 with some interesting forwards and amazing D

And yeah a third still works for me

Wouldn't do it. Kerfoot himself is already a decent depth asset, Bonino cancels him out. Think Liljegren+1st for Foligno+2nd is just bad value for the Leafs, even if the players were retained.

kerfoot is just a causality of cap. its really (bonino + foligno for a 1st and liljegren) and (kerfoot + retention for a 2nd), near 4 mil ret. is similar to the staal cap dump which i think overall is decent value for the leafs, not amazing value but they get a 2nd for kerfoot and retention to allow them to run the roster for the playoffs but the real value is the team which becomes way better for a cup run and a very defense able third line when needed for the playoffs.

2021 is gonna be a weird draft. I would be amazed if BG pulled this out though, it’s a clear (long term) win for the Wild.

Could make sense if Leafs have tried and failed to set up a successful checking line.

I would think it would only work if Leafs had a good idea they could re-sign Bonino to a reasonable deal.

yeah - minny wins long term defiently but if the leafs win the cup (which i honestly like this rosters chances compared to currently) then its worth it. Bonino is awesome and foligno is a solid d oriented guy. the leafs would have a third line that could do damage but also play amazing defence

its basically tampa; the leafs want/ need to win and they get a better depth player than tampa did trading two firsts and here they get two players. Its not a long term win for the leafs but a huge short term gain
if the leafs want a cup they gotta do what tampa did and make the team better overall - winning is the value

makes sense from the opinion of bonino needing to resign. no idea what that ext. would look like because i could see teams offering him 3-4.5m x 1 after this year

I'd consider this if we're looking at signing Lehtonen long term. It's a steep price but a good playoff run would make giving up the first worth it.

EDIT: Should also extend Folingo too with this. Boosts the lower end for a few more years.

yes and no - i def use them as to why i selected these two. I think you need a healthy balance of both eyes and analytics but when it comes to depth players i think analystics is important because you want a guy depth guy to be amazing but they cant be amazing at the same time because then they become 2nd liners. So with depth guys you need players who likely wont become top 6 talents but youll want them to provide more value then their AAV which is where analytics help
