I dont see the benefit of trading for OEL and not getting Kuemper too.

I pass on the Vilardi trade.

The OEL trade is basically a way to load the top-4 by so much that you can basically stick David Ayres in the net and you'll still be alright.

While that top 4 is great and Seattle would be unlikely to pull OEL, his contract is too long and has a negative value too.

2 very good winger prospects and a good #3C prospect for a sure-fire top-6 centerman? Personally, I'd do it. LA is really loaded with centers and lack potentially-elite scoring wingers outside of Kaliyev. This basically is a deal that addresses needs for both teams and gives Byfield and Turcotte the keys to the #1 and #2C spots in a few years.

You have to account for the fact that OEL's current support cast isn't that great when you determine the value that he may add to the left side. It's a high-risk deal with a potentially very high payoff. I'd personally do it if OEL agreed to waive his NMC, both for Carolina and the ED.

You wouldn't protect Bean over Vlasic or Simek? Um, OK...If there's anything that San Jose needs more of, it's young LHD and good middle-six guys. The depth on the Sharks is, shall we say, lacking.

Vlasic must be protected, Karlsson must be protected, so that leaves Burns, Simek or Bean to protect. Why would the sharks pay so much for a guy you are going to lose for free? We keep Dahlen 100%, but Chmelevski for Bean could be a deal if we found a way to get Vlasic to waive his NMC.

Personally, I would expose Burns and hope that Vlasic waives his NMC. If so, then protect Karlsson, Bean, and Simek. If Vlasic doesn't waive, then protect Karlsson, Vlasic, and Bean. IMO, Foegele is worth Dahlen + small pick, since we don't know how Dahlen will do in the NHL and San Jose is severely lacking good, young, middle-six depth in their forward group. Run with a group like this going forward:

Vlasic-Karlsson
Bean-Burns
Ferraro-Simek

With Merkley on the way.

To balance out long term contracts for the Canes because we will unlikely be able to afford OEL in year 2 with Dougie needing a deal.

OEL and Kuemper

For

Gardiner, Nino, Reimer, a better prospect than Cotton and a 2nd.

The cap money is within 50k. Of course that creates its own issue with OEL needing to be protected. We would have to sign Dougie post ED to keep Slavin and Pesce. Or we go 4-4. Now we could move Dzingel or keep him as the 2LW. If we move him, we may have enough money for Granlund on a 1 year deal.

This is a deadline deal, not an offseason one. Also, Dzingel and Skjei for OEL is a cap-neutral swap, and the Dougie and Svech deals are payed off with the Foegele/Bean trade, the ED, the Semin buyout expiration and McGinn/Marty/Mrazek/Reimer becoming UFAs.

It isn’t a net neutral this year but next. The 3 million saved from Foegele being move doesnt cover the additional 8 million needed to cover the two deals

Semin's buyout expiration covers 2.5M more, and the rest is covered by replacing McGinn and Marty from within or from the COVID-suppressed UFA market. It's workable.

I guess, but I dont see Foegele as a target. Id rather wait and see what Dahlen can do because his ceiling is much higher

See, I like Dahlen a lot, which is why I'm even talking about him, but he's inherently an ultra-risky prospect to deal Foegele for, on our end. Although I love his overall game, he's 23 (or will be 23), with no NHL experience, some past AHL struggles, and is still in the Allsvenskan. To me, parlaying that type of player into a young middle-six guy that's already doing well in the NHL is good value for San Jose. To me, Carolina can afford to swing hard and whiff.

Fair enough, I think I would rather see the sharks let him play out instead of going for a safe option

Fair. If he does bust, though, you may regret not getting Foegele for him, but we'll see wink

No a fan of the la deal. When ur looking at prospects nothing is guaranteed. I think I would rather have the 3 chances of having one of our prospects pan out to their max potential vs vilardi. I get that vilardi has a lot of potential but so does Jarvis.

The oel trade just doesn’t make sense to me at all. The defense is the canes strongest aspect, I don’t see adding in further cap to it as an effective decision long term. Not to mention the canes would have a nightmare with the expansion draft trying to keep all 4

Well, the OEL deal is only completed on the condition that he waives his NMC for both us and Seattle. In that case, Carolina protects Hamilton/Pesce/Slavin. If not, well, then we don't do the trade.

Then why trade that much to just lose oel to Seattle?

Because Seattle's unlikely to take him over someone like Fleury. Expansion clubs usually don't select a guy with a massive contract outright in the ED.
