Correct me if I’m wrong ( which I probably am )
But I think these are very reasonable trades

I tend to agree, I mean may be giving up a bit much for subban but have the room and his ceiling is much higher than zaitsev and only a couple years left.

I would love both of these trades as a Sens fan. I would absolutely love to have Subban simply for the fact his contract expires sooner than Zaitsev's, and maybe it's possible that Cirelli would be excited to play for DJ again.

I don’t know how inhibitory a big contract is to the Devils right now, but if they want an extra 4.5mil cap space for the next two years, I’d definitely pay a 2nd to get Zaitsev off our hands and take Subban’s monster deal for the shorter term. Zaitsev would probably perform better when he’s not expected to be a top pair guy anyway, and Subban has won a Norris, he’d be a good mentor to Chabot, who should be in that conversation soon. He’s also just as annoying to play against as Tkachuk, maybe he can give him tips for how to rattle guys’ cages lol. I don’t see a downside to taking Subban even if he doesn’t bounce back, because he’s still better than Zaitsev imo and a good mentor.

As for the Cirelli trade, it’s a lot to give up but I think Cirelli has more offensive potential to give, and obviously he’s already a Selke-calibre defensive player. A definite long term top 6 centre definitely worth the price. Tampa gets a couple real nice prospects at important positions on top of a bit of cap room (you could think of it as Killorn+whatever assets they would give up to dump him, plus L. Brown, Thomson, and a 2nd for Cirelli). They probably still need to dump Johnson to get cap compliant and keep Cernak tho lol. If I’m being hones, I doubt Cirelli is the guy they move, but if it’s the only way they can get compliant this is a pretty solid return

I wouldn't do that Cirelli trade from a Tampa standpoint. I find the package underwhelming

I mean it’s basically two 1sts and a 2nd, and honestly that 2022 2nd is likely to still be a top 40 pick. L. Brown’s also NHL ready and Thomson has a year of development under his belt so it’s like first round picks on steroids. That’s better than the offer sheet compensation and more than most teams would probably want to give up for a guy they’d then be forced to give a big contract to, but Ottawa can eat the hit to their assets due to their deep prospect pool. I don’t really know what more you could expect for Cirelli. It’s a far more appealing package than NJD got for Hall even.

It was late when I posted this... I forgot Stuetzel and my rationale for the Subban trade was for the shorter term and that Eugene loves him. I agree that the Tampa trade may be underwhelming from their standpoint but what are they being offered by anyone else?

Too bad Anthony Cirelli isn't available, And too bad he wont sign that contract in high taxed Canada. He'd want at least $7 mil + to sign with the Sens.
