Description

This will probably NEVER happen, but IMO the leafs are still not tough enough. This is my take on adding grit.

Why I traded Nylander - It pains me to do this but Nylander's contract is not only great for the leafs, but easier to move. I choose Chicago bc A) he is reunited with his brother (Alex) and I believe in sibling chemistry, though it sometimes may never work. B) It gives Chicago some extra fire power up front with Kane and Toews (and yes I do recognize that theyre becoming old farts real soon, but they got a lot of game left in them).
I chose to have Keith come back in the deal as he's soon to retire and TOR has better odds to get further in the playoffs than CHI (hopefully past the 1st round lol), but I added simply for veteran presence and playoff experience (3 cups in 6 seasons with the hawks which blows my mind) and he would be great to mentor to Sandin and others in company.
I also selected Ian Mitchell (a very good top prospect from what I've heard) and Evan Barratt (another prospect) bc Keith alone would just have the Hawks fleecing TOR completely. CHI also gets Dermotts rights to fill the void of their top prospect being let go in this trade.

If your wanting to say something negative, just remember that like me, your sitting behind a computer screen and not a General Manager's desk. But that's like talking to a wall eh?

The only concern I have for this trade is the draft picks because idk if Chicago would be willing to move a 2022 1st and 2023 2nd.

You do realize that Chicago's #1 and #5 prospects are also apart of his deal.. right? Not to mention some high potential high draft picks? But, I suppose you'd want me to put Kane here instead so you wont get upset that were losing something.

I’d pass as Chicago. Nylander is a great player, I just don’t think he’s going to fit the cap structure moving forward. The Hawks are already going to have 3 high priced forwards of the future in Dach, Debrincat, and Strome. Toews and Kane are going to be around for a while still and they’re going to need paid too. I just don’t think the Hawks can manage to fit Nylander and all those guys under the cap, especially if they retain on Keith. Mitchell is already being counted on to be a big part of the D moving forward, which is where the real issues with this team lie. I get the need for a 1st in the deal, but I think at this point that’s more than likely a top 10 pick.

Not awful value-wise, but I just don’t see a fit for the Hawks.

Yeah, if I'm Chicago I'm not doing that trade. Mitchell will is a top 10 defensive prospect in the NHL and Barratt is a solid 3rd line center prospect plus eating half of Keith's cap hit for a guy who's still a very good 2nd liner and giving up a 1st and 2nd for a team rebuilding is to much for Nylander. Chicago has to pass on this.

Oh absolutely and its most likely why this will never happen. I just seen it as a veteran add for the leaf's (bc im a fan of TOR) so that the players can get a better understanding of what it takes to get into the playoffs and go far, like Keith did. I still feel the leafs core needs some teaching from the vets, bc i still feel they dont know what it takes to win in the playoffs

That's a pretty bad trade for Chicago and no way should they be retaining on Keith.

I know how good Nylander is but this is really slanted in Toronto's favor, Mitchell is gonna be a damn good player!

Sorry I didn't realize this thread was for the 22-23 season.. Lol.. but still this is way too much for Nylander, tossing in Dermott and a couple meh picks doesn't even it out imo.

A 1st, 2nd, their best prospect in Mitchell, another decent one in Barratt and Keith is just way too much, I do take back my statement about the retention on Keith, it'd be fine in this scenario.

This is a fair statement man and no worries its all good. Lets say it does happen (hypothetically), who would you put in for the trade? As i said before, its purpose was to add some veteran presence and also some mentorship for the younger players

As a hawks fan, if we put together that package and only got Nylander in return I would be livid. Not trying to knock Nylander but I don’t think he’d come close to bringing in that return, as these assets stand now. If Mitchell pans out the way he is projected, Toronto might have their new top RD for the next 10 years. (Might be top guy, not guarantee, his potential is very high). That 1st rounder is likely a lottery pick. A rebuilding team trading away their first rounder is a move no NHL should ever make. Every asset going to Toronto has great value. Adding Dermott and the 3rds feel like throw in pieces. So as things stand now, that’s an easy no for me. I have no problem saying that is way too much for Nylander. He is not that special to warrant that return.

However, this trade is for 2022. These assets value will change by then. Could this trade make sense in 2022? Yeah it could. Could it be a bad trade for Toronto or a bad trade for Chicago? Yeah it could. But evaluating everybody where they stand now, I’d have to say no as a hawks fan.
