Description
I did not watch the last scrimmage to see what type of line pairings they went with etc. I think they could have gone with some more size and grit in the bottom of the line up. I might have added Samuel Poulin over Suzuki.
Not sure which G impressed the most. That’s a huge ❓ right now. Likely won’t be decided until the end of the preliminary round.
I really like what Zary Dach and Tomasino were doing together.
McMichael with Byfield and Quinn gives them a proven veteran who scored 5 goals last year and has loads of points in the OHL. Might help Byfield get into the groove that we need from him.
Put Cozens on the third line for the same reason. He might end up on one of the top 2 Lines.
I love the D pairs. Byram and Drysdale will be in the top PP Unit but otherwise I’d split them up at 5v5 to spread the wealth around.

There’s a lack of continuity for next year.
2 D are 18 and can return. Drysdale might end up with the Ducks next season but I really hope not. I am certain that Guhle will be in the WHL next season. Both of those guys can be really important players at next year’s tournament.
All 3 G’s will be eligible for next year.
Only 2 F can return: Byfield and Perfetti and they should be in the NHL.

2022 and 2021 draft will fill out the roster next year.

Guys like power + Clarke and I think the third other top 3 2021 draft prospect will be a Canadian d (can’t remember his name) (all three are d) (2021 is the draft to select a D)

Then guys like Guenther (should be top 5 this year - 2021 draft eligible) and Wright + Savoie (2022 eligible - both should be top 3) are a few likely forwards

The first line is going to be McMichael-Cozens-Dach. They were way to good in that one game. Jesus this team is way to good I kind of feel bad for the other teams 😂

The first line has pretty much been decided from their play in the exhibition games with McMichael - Cozens - Dach on the first line, then Byfield centering the 2nd line. Also Harley and Schneider have been a pair throughout the exhibition games as well, so they're probably together, then most likely Byram and Drysdale.

I really don’t see a world where Cozens is outside the top 6, he was Canada’s 3rd best forward LAST year, he won’t be on the 3rd line this time. Only reason he’s maybe not on the top line is because of the Zary-Dach-Tomasino chemistry, unless they go with Zary-Byfield-Tomasino on the second line and stack the first line. I anticipate he will be on the 2nd line with McMichael, but it remains to be seen if one of them will play C and add a guy like Newhook, Perfetti, or Quinn on the wing, or if they will play wings with Byfield in the middle (this info might be a little outdated, but basically Cozens is a top 6 lock). That’s basically another first line anyway, and I imagine the two will see similar ice time. Garand and Brochu were the most impressive goalies in camp, but they cut Brochu for some reason, so I anticipate they’ll roll with Garand to start with.

I’m sure they will mix it up to find chemistry and balance but I am not usually a fan of loading up one line unless you need a goal pretty bad. I’ve always been an advocate of splitting McDavid and Draisaitl. For example.

I would anticipate Jarvis being a lock next year as well. Should be a much younger team next go around, but still some really high-end skill. Already predicting Wright wins MVP of the tournament lol

Yeah I saw some flack from people (idiots I guess) when he was cut Thursday, but man he’s 16; in a COVID year and the only 16 year olds to ever make the roster were Crosby, mcdavid, and Gretzky. Wright definitely doesn’t lose anything from being cut and only gains really.

Don’t forget Lindros and Spezza! I think there might have been a couple more, I seem to think Bouwmeester or Ellis might be one (can’t remember if Ellis played 4 years or just 3). But yeah lol there’s no way he was gonna make the starting 12, obviously his skill level is phenomenal and he was above a point per game, but he’s going up against guys 3 years older, bigger, and who put up more points at the junior level this year. He’ll be better at 19 than they are now but they have the slight edge at this moment, and Canada is overloaded with talent. Given they brought Suzuki as the likely 14F I wouldn’t have hated it if they brought Wright for the experience in his place, but I also would have chosen Rees or Poulin over both of them lol

Also I believe Lambos was the third 2021 draft eligible D you were thinking of, and other 2021 draft eligible forwards who should be selected high and perform well for Canada at the WJC next year would be McTavish, Sillinger, and L’Heureux. As a Flames fan I’m hoping Poirier has a shot on D, he’s insanely talented offensively but probably needs to round out his defensive game a bit to make the final team next year.

Newhook + Holloway + Pelletier will be a line most likely.

I have been referring to Cozens as 1C for 6 months and have had heaps of garbage thrown at me.

I'll accept apologies here.

Those 3 were 16 I believe unless my math is shot.
