Yzerman sends Anthony Cirelli a $4.3M x 4 offer sheet. Tampa matches. TBL salary will then sit at $87.M and unable to match the Cernak offer sheet because that will put TB over 110% of the salary cap.

good plan but I personally would try the reverse order, not sure it would work though; just don't go too far in on Cernak in case he declines to match it?

Offersheets clearly aren’t a thing in the flat cap world. Tampa had 3 very realistic RFAs that could have been targeted and not even a small rumour about any team willing to go after.

You wouldn’t need to make the cirelli offer sheet. Tampa can’t and wouldn’t match that cernak offer sheet. He will sign for half of that and probably less (Myers is better than him).

Of course. Offer sheets are considered sleezy and seldom seen in reality. I know that.

The hardest part would be convincing cirelli or cernak to move from tampa bay to detroit.

Ya, Phil Myers is the flyers #1 RD and he just signed for 2.5x3. They’re the same age too. Tampa can do a shorter term deal for less than 2 mil IMO.

The thing about offer sheets is that the player actually has to agree to the deal. I don't think Cirelli accepts $4.3/4 years.

I think Tampa will get him at about 2x2. I guess for 5 years that salary seems about right, but it might be smarter to get him to a shorter contract and then if he doesn't get significantly better you won't be overpaying him. I don't really see him ever being more than a 4.5 AAV player. This contract isn't terrible though

Can't see Yzerman screwing over the team he spent years building, him and BriseBois have a good relationship. Teams rarely do offer sheets anyways, its an even slimmer chance Yzerman tries it on his old team when that 2nd round pick could be like the 32nd OA pick

But do they have a choice? Both have 4 or 5 seasons before they become UFA's.

I know offer sheets are part of the game but one team is still going to be upset. Add that to a 2nd round pick and is it worth it for a defenseman who most likely be in the 3rd pair?

They don't have to sign the offer sheet. So yeah they do have a choice.
