Description
Hoffman goes to a contender. Gets 1 line minutes. Will get 1pp minutes. Gets his 1 year coronacontract to prove himself (not like he has too) and he will be able to test free agency next season and cash out while Blues get a good replacement this year as Tarasenko will not play this season.

It's a great idea in theory but the money doesn't work. If Tarasenko and/or Steen comeback with Dunn's extension it could be problematic.

Steen is injured so should be on the LTIR. Hoffman is nowhere near a replacement of Tarensenko, it is only a somewhat heal of wounds. However, Thomas Robert's developments are very good, it will help too.

Surprised, but not surprised Steen will be out to start season giving STL some cap space. I wonder if getting Hoffman to a 2 year deal could lower his desired AAV, and allow them to not resign and overspend on Schwartz long term (like they did with Schenn).

You don’t get that cap space in the off-season tvough. You get it game 1 after he goes on LTIR. Although there are ways to circumvent that, and signing a FA during the off-season. U can go over the cap like 6M during the off-season and be cap compliant by game 1 by just placing players in the minors that are waiver exempt and take their salary off the roster. U still have to have the 20 man roster though. But u can dress only 10 if u want. But then game 1 throw Tarasenko and Steen on the LTIR and get that cap space.

If the cap works with Steen and Tarasenko on LTIR and the Dunn signing, then Hoffman at whatever is left over try to sign Hoffman.

That's not exactly true. Leafs had Lupus and Horton on LTIR for years....10.5m in cap and certainly didn't have the ability to put 10.5m in the minors for one game. Certainly that 81.5m cap limit does not include LTIR players. Team aren't cap punished for having injured players. Teams can be 10% over the cap limit during the offseason, but that doesn't necessarily include LTIR players.

Sure it does..add up any teams LTIR players now in the offseason. Like Zetterbwrg and Detroit. It counts against their cap right now. It counts against every teams cap until game 1 of the season. When u can put a player on LTIR. No matter if they have been on the LTIR for years and are gonna continue to be on the LTIR the 1st game of the season. You can only put a player on LTIR game 1 of the season. That’s when u get the cap space. I’m not lying to u man..lol.

Tarasenko's timeline to be ready was going to be about mid February. Can anybody following the return to play stuff tell me with a straight face that we're going to be playing before mid February? No Tarasenko replacement needed, especially one who would be more comparable to David Perron than Tarasenko (and that's not a complement).

I know teams aren't cap punished for having players on LTIF Certainly the Leafs did not enter seasons with a roster 10m or so of "active" players under the cap. The reason the Wings have Zetterberg on LTIR is because is on LTIR. Actually Ottawa and Detroit will have their LTIR players on IR at the beginning of the season ...and still be and the cap and then are able to pay the bonuses in the current year.

No the LTIR doesn't really count against the cap. Certainly the Leafs did not have Lupul and Horton and their 10.5m on the cap which would made them enter the season with a roster 10m under "active" players.
Actually Ottawa and the Wings will have their LTIR just on IR so they can pay the bonuses in the current season.
Teams aren't cap punished by having players on LTIR. Are you saying if Toews and Kane are injured in the off season, the Hawks have to enter the season with 60m roster? C'mon.

Ok, look it up. Or add up everyone’s cap right now. I bet Zetterberg and other players are counting against the cap right now. With isn’t Tarasenko’s salary off STL cap..? Cause it can’t until game 1 of the season.

Sorry just look how cap and is handled. Fact: The Leafs had two guys on LTIR for years totally 10.5m. Leafs weren't forced (or even couldn't ) waive 10m of cap to the minors for the first game of the seasons.
Doesn't matter how the cap is handled now, it how it handled when rosters are set before the first cap. Absolutely no way are teams to limited to 10% overages only if they LTIRs players. Actually the Senators and Wings, teams with cap will not put their LTIR players but IR so they are eligible for bonus payments in the current year.
So you're telling me, that if Toews and Kanes are injured training for the season and have season ending injuries the Hawks will be forced to sign players with total of 81.5 plus 10% before the season begins and then have an opening day roster of 60m and then miraculously they can add 20m of active players by game two?
