What I Would Have Done This Offseason

Description
Overall, Jim Rutherford has the team going in the right direction based on his moves this offseason, but personally, I still would've done things differently.

I had to adjust the cap cuz of Bjugstad's retained salary trade. If I just bought him out I wouldn’t be over it.

Legare had 87 points in 68 games and 71 points in 61 games so far in the Q. He’s 6’0, 205 pounds, is the captain of his team. Was the best young player in camp last year, scored 3 goals in 2 pre-season games. He’s close to NHL ready and proved it last year during camp
And preseason games. If he doesn’t win a roster spot this year, or join the team at sometime during the season, he will next year. He’s close to contributing on a NHL level.

I didn’t follow the Pens’ training camp last season so I had no clue he was that good. From the scouting reports I read, he has a strong offensive game but is not a good skater & defensively inept. Isn’t Poulin projected to be more NHL ready than him?

Yes. Poulin grew since being drafted too. Poulin is 6’3, 210 now. He definitely physically ready. So is Legare though at 6’0 205. Ya, Legare has been lighting it up in the Q. More than a PPG. And is his team’s captain. He was the best young player in Pens camp last year. Everyone(coaches, beat writers, insiders, analyst were all raving about him. And ya, he had 3 goals in 2 preseason games. He was the 34th ranked prospect in the 2019 draft. Pens were either taking him or Poulin in the 1st round. And when he fell past the 2nd, the Pens traded up to the beginning of the 3rd and took him. He’s for sure an NHL player. He has an NHL future. If not this year, then next.

The Wild wouldn't have done Hornqvist for Staal. The attraction in Johansson was that he can play center and is also on an expiring contract. Hornqvist is neither of those.

Zero of those trades work, unfortunately

Ppl too high on Legare. Lots of guys score in the Q and then flop. He went in third round for a reason.

Thanks for the insight. I knew Legare was producing extremely well for Baie Comeau, but I had no idea he was that dominant in camp. Him and Poulin are going to be pretty special players.

IDK man, I feel that's the maximum a team would be willing to give for him.

I didn't know Marcus Johansson could play C. In Washington he was primarily LW and in Buffalo he only lasted a few games at C. I felt Hornqvist is the better player so I thought it would work.

Ya, I just read the leafs article on Hallander too. I think he’ll be good as well. Legate has top 6 potential through and Legare was and is definitely a better prospect in our system than Hallander. But Hallamder is still solid. He’s gonna help the leafs especially in the toughness, in front of the net prospects they are lacking.

Thanks for letting me know, that sounds good. I heard Hallander is going to be a great defensive forward at NHL level, his style is similar to ZAR with more skill. Although he doesn't have great footspeed.
