dumba is not exactly what we need, he's more an offensive kinda dman. Still good, but he'd be bumping off Mo for PP1 time which would create problems like with Barrie.

Also Fiala's good, but he's no marner. add in his zero term and a raise in his future, hard to see us pulling the trigger on this imo

Before the draft i was worried the Kings would mess up and take Stutzle like that weird rumour that made no sense and it would leave Byfield and Perfetti/Rossi to the Sens. thank god they ended up with neither

I don't care if Marner is better than Fiala, or if the value isn't enough. It's not a good deal for Minnesota either here you know. Marner is overpaid and we couldn't afford his contract without sacrificing future contracts of other important core roster players in the future when they're due for a raise. The Parise, Suter, Zuccarello contracts effectively block that from happening.

Simply put, a Marner to the Wild trade doesn't work. Not without significant retention, and I highly doubt Leafs fans want that.

Additionally, Dumba to the leaves was probably viable 6 months ago. Not so much anymore. Brodin doesn't make any more sense than Dumba, as you already have Muzzin and O'Reilly on the left. Unless one of them can play the right, Brodin likely plays the 3rd pairing if he plays the left or 1st pairing if the right and on his offside.

Then throw in that Brodin literally just signed an extension that includes a full NMC, he isn't going anywhere. And he certainly isn't available.

And i dont really care if the wild can sqeeze in Marner's contract, I dont want to trade him. But if the Wild want Marner , then it's going to cost them. The Leafs would want Brodin and Rossi to start and if that doesnt work for Minnesota then oh well it doesnt work. No skin off my back.

I started writing my post before you had your little conversation so I didn't see the comments until after posting. I'm not what you'd call the fastest texter while using a smartphone, sue me.

That's also great news because we don't want him or his contract. Certainly not at that cost, even if that was his value. It hurts us more during the long run than if we keep who we have now. Giving up our best defenseman on top of our future 1C, you know the guy we've only waited our entire franchise history for, is a non starter.

Marner or not, he isn't worth our 1C.

So it's great to know it's no skin off your back. Because not trading for Marner is certainly none off of mine.
