And Stamkos waives his NTC because? He likes vacationing with Melnyk in Barbados?

Because he can play close to home without the headache/heartbreak and drama and toxic fans which J.T. is dealing with "making his dream" come true.

Stamkos can easily mold the Sens into Cup contender faster than J.T. and the Leafs....Just got to work on that Dcore. Where's Brad Marsh playing these days >?

Brad Marsh? I haven't heard that name in decades it seems. Last I heard he ran a bar in Ottawa? I can't remember.

Just wiki his name...he holds a NHL record....fewest goals scored by a player who has played more than 1000 NHL games. Also besides Mactavish, he was one of the last players to play without a helmet. Sens original expansion drafted player too.

Wow I thought the "he wants to play here cus it's his home" excuse was dumb but you just had to one up it.
Now every player wants to play anywhere kinda close to home? Smh

I fully blame Tavares and now Simmonds (traded to Buffalo cuz it was kinda close to Toronto and then signing there) for this, now everyone thinks their local players want to come home (or worse, their terrible players want to go home and thus their hometown teams must also want them and be willing to give up value for them 🤮)

Some players thrive playing against their home teams, Eichel and McDavid both do well. I think that given the chance in FA moving close to you or to your home town does have some incentive because you have family there the idea that players are only hockey players and don't have lives and families and don't consider them in trades or signings is kinda crazy. How to say that every player will just waive because he can is crazy. Tavares moves when he was 26 or 27 right so he probably hadn't really created a family but Stamkos seems pretty rooted in florida and there wod have to be some hella incentives to live in a cold place like Ottowa. But I think that this is very dependent on whether the players have some say, bigger players can push where they want to go easier. A guy like Kyle Okposo doesn't get a deal to go home. While maybe a guy like Kane might waive to go home to Buffalo.

Another thing is some players might care to win as well so home town would come after that.

laugh laugh On what planet would Steven Stamkos waste the next 4 years of his career on Ottawa? He's no waiving and definitely not waiving for a cellar dweller.

I think stammer would strongly consider waiving. A lot of factors brought into play like boarder crossing if Tampa applies pressure to accept a deal somewhere the only logical options to accomplish the cap savings Tampa needs leaves Ottawa as one of very few options. Would he rather Detroit or jersey? I doubt it. Sens are loaded with prospects everywhere and not far off from being competitive.

laugh at you, the Sens have won more recent playoff rounds than half the league in the last decade, including Detriot.

The other problem here is the money he would lose to waive for Ottawa. He loses 1.346 million in taxes per year. Over 5 million over the remainder of his deal.

Correct! Tampa is screwed with the NHLPA escrow amount jumping this year. No player wants to lose money to escrow, then more to tax. Plus, I think Tampa is so desperate, Ottawa could give up far less to get Stamkos....but then Stammer says no.

I understand that but players are taking finical hits everywhere it’s unfortunate but that’s the business. In this case he’s moving to a Canadian club which in Canada there is more potential sponsorship deals he can easily recoup any losses due to tax differences.

Tax difference is more than made up by additional sponsorships Canadian markets can provide. Think of Canadian tire or Tim hortons if he could be advertised in a Canadian clubs jersey huge deal coming his way.
