Description
I may have gauged the value wrong for the deal, but I stand by what I say and I don't think theres any way Tampa moves Johnson unless there's a 1st and a solid prospect attached. So instead, in order to keep the draft assets for Tampa I have them sending Cernak because he would be able to attract significantly more attention than Johnson.

  2. Johnson, Tyler
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (TBL)
Détails additionnels:
When it comes to New Jersey they're one of the only teams I believe actually can take on Johnson's contract without it being that big of a detriment. The team only has 3 total NHL contracts on the books after 2022, so the 4 years remaining on his deal won't be as bad.
Cernak is a great pickup for NJ as he is a standout defensive defensemen, and considering this team struggled mightily on the defensive end who can be an important building block for the future blue-line of the team.
TBL
  1. Kuokkanen, Janne
Détails additionnels:
If Tampa can get a solid young guy like Kuokkanen out of this deal, a guy who can potentially be a top 9/3rd line forward that would be great.

I get that it's just hard to gauge value, since Johnson has 4 years remaining, so NJ needs Tampa Bay to really offer something substantial since they're both taking on a bad contract and helping out the Lightning with their cap issues. Also I know Cernak is important for Tampa but the amount of money they'll need to clear to sign both Cernak and Cirelli will be hard to do, and with Cal Foote on his way up, he can be the piece that makes trading away a bad contract in Johnson work.

No one wanted Johnson for free, but cernak (with Johnson attached) is worth more than that.

You paid 2 2nds for a bad contract last year. Johnson is hardly overpaid if at all. The only thing bad about his contract is the clause and term

Yes but the Lightning are completely desperate, to clear salary and since nobody will take Johnson a real good sweetner needs to be added and thats Cernak. Now maybe Tampa doesn't send a pick, thats my mistake maybe NJ sends one.

Like I said I was just gauging value for what it would cost to dump Johnson's contract.

It’s either going to take some real outside the box moves or some team doing something really stupid if TB wants to get anything even close to fair value in any trade. Everyone knows that they have to clear a ton of salary and the teams with cap space at this point are closer to rebuilding than contending so they’ll want either high picks, top prospects or young rfa types like Cernak. Either way I want SOMETHING to happen soon

THANK YOU somebody gets it, jeez everyone thinks I'm throwing Cernak in here like he's just some meh piece and don't understand the desperate state Tampa Bay is in. If I were NJ I'd do a trade for Johnson (obviously if he agrees to go there) if Cernak is involved.

Tyler Johnson isn't waiving for New Jersey, There's already several credible sources saying that Tyler Johnson and Tampa's 2021 1st round pick to Detroit for Henrik Zetterberg is about a done deal.

Can you say what those sources are? I found a youtube video that references a Russian twitter account as the only ones reporting that.
And what’s the difference between waiving for Detroit vs waiving for NJ? The Devils have a roster that is probably closer to contending than the Red Wings. Personally, I’d rather just stay on the Lightning then go to any of the teams that have the cap space to take the contract.

I live outside of Tampa and there's been rumblings of a deal sending Tyler Johnson and Tampa's 2021 1st round pick to Detroit for Henrik Zetterberg and others have mentioned it as well, We shall see i personally don't see Johnson waiving for Detroit or any bottom team. But who know's.

As a Wings fan would like this deal? What does it do to their long term plans?

Well if the Wings got Johnson they would have 41 million in cap space (including Johnson's 5mil cap hit) with Hronek, Bertuzzi, and Lindstrom being the big RFA's and no big UFAs coming off (unless u consider Bernier to be that). Im not all to familiar with Detroit's prospect poll as I am with other teams except Raymond, Lindstrom and Seider who I would all expect to be on the 2022 roster. So without signing or resigning anybody the roster would have 8 forwards, 3 d-men, and 1 goalie and thats also without losing a player to expansion. Realistically tho you could acquire Johnson and then leave him exposed in the SEA draft and they may choose him.

I could see TB having to add Cernak in a move to move salary, (I've proposed cernak and Johnson to PHI or NASH).

However you have to bear in mind why TB does it. Its to clear salary and acquire what they lack: youth, contracts, cheaper skaters. (TB has so few players under contract, and little mid or high end prospects)

I think you're right about Cernak at 2.85mil or so. But I can see them getting say Jarnkrot, a mid level prospect in minors or 2, and a 2nd or say a similar deal from PHI for Scott Laughton or a NAK.

TB needs bodies tat can enter lineup, but need to move Johnson's 5mil. SO Johnson and Cernak means they probably have to get a cheap but reasonable quality roster player back and more. Say Scott Laughton, prospects in AHL like LW Isaac Ratcliffe and D Linus Hogberg kind of deal.
