This implies that teams have nothing to do with the successful or failed development of players when they clearly have enormous impact.

Drafting as hi as they did, the problem isn’t who they chose but how poorly they developped them.

This is why their rebuilt fails since forever, and why tanking again probably won't work.

The GM might as well trade away their picks (like the Montour trade) if the owner doesn't want to invest in the développement system.

Ottawa, Washington, San Jose, and Chicago all passed on Andrei Vasilevskiy before Tampa Bay took him.
Eighteen rounds passed before Theodore was picked by the Ducks.
Detroit, Florida, Los Angeles, Carolina all passed before Vegas took Nick Suzuki, then they traded him away anyway.
Many teams passed on Jaccob Slavin before he was taken in the fourth round.

TBH many teams passed on all of the players except Draisaitl and Sergachev.
They were taken directly after Reinhart and Nylander respectively.
IMO you can actually add DeBrincat to the list as he was taken directly after the pick that we traded away to Florida to get Asplund.
