It's an obvious hypothetical, but at what point to Rangers fans realize that Krav doesn't hold the bucket loads of value that he did 1.5/2 years ago? Is this a take of not wanting the player, or not liking the price?

Well, I know you assume we overvalue Kravtsov but it's like you said, his face value 1.5/2 years ago was slightly more prominent than it is now. It's not his value that we hold to a high regard it's his potential. We can find centers in the draft, free agency, or cheaper alternatives than a 34-year-old long time rival. We're not naive enough to think just because how good the rebuild is going that our luck in major transactions will change too. Your offer entails, our best forward prospect (Lafreniere obviously in NHL), Our top line RW, Our BEST C prospect who has looked better than season, plus 2 high picks for a $9.5M aging center.

Also, I know Malkin is still fantastic and the rhetoric of us needing a 2C echos quite loud, but we aren't even playoff contenders this year. 2022 is the start of our rebound process. Malkin at 35-36 years old will be a shell of his former self and that package will be for nothing.

Rangers pass on Malkin, especially for what you believe NYR would have to give up in order to acquire him. Rangers also pass on Anthony (Tony) Angello. But that's only because having to announce a game where Tony DeAngelo and Anthony (Tony) Angello are on the ice at the same time together, would prove to be too difficult of a work environment for Sam, Joe, Dave, John, Kenny, Don, and The Stemer.

Malkin is a penguin for life. He's not gonna be a guy who gets traded at any point. If he plays for another team it will be via free agency in two years.
