I actually think this would be smart for TB.

Whoever wrote that, should erase it. There is zero sense in trading Zetterberg's contract and taking on Johnson would require AT least a 1st and another good asset to take on the money and term... for nothing in return.

Johnson doesn’t want to waive his NTC, and shouldn’t have to just because Tampa GM (prior) couldn’t manage their contracts.
Probably even less chance he waives for Detroit in their current state (rebuild).
06/2021 he must submit 20 team trade list, but until then he probably doesn’t want to be moved.

Yeah I was more just gauging value, but I could definitely see Tampa shipping a 1st with him, and I could see Johnson waiving to play for his former GM's team in Yzerman, and having an elevated role for the Wings vs the Lightning.

It's not going to be easy to trade Johnson. But he has said he's willing to work with Brisebois. Whatever that means. Kevin Allen recently said something about this and I agree with him. Brisebois likely has a deal he can make but doesn't want to make.

Yzerman would have to get 1 of Barre-Boulet/Katchouk/Raddysh/Foote plus a 1st (which is more like an early 2nd) to take TJ's 4 years. Ideally Detroit would acquire him and Seattle would take him in the Expansion draft. But what if they don't? It's risky. But if Yzerman can get a Barre-Boulet and a 1st as sweeteners then he could likely live with it.

Zetterberg’s LTIR is insured and only one more year so doesn’t really benefit us to downgrade the pick/futures attached to TJ.

Without 10 rounds of electro shock therapy? Probably not.

I don’t think this is that far fetched of an idea. No doubt the ask to take him would be a first but clearly teams aren’t willing to throw away firsts so this seems like an interesting compromise

This is bad for Wings in two ways. 1st Zetterberg cost the Wings nothing as the last year of his deal is only 1 million in real dollars and most of it is covered in insurance. So they lose him and take on 5 million in cap and real doallrs for 4 years for a 31 year old center, who is better at wing and has been declining over tha last 2 years. All for a 2nd, no thanks. Zetterberg is an asset which if traded allows a team to go over the cap to sign other players and cost virtually nothing.

To take on Johnson with the Tampa cap issue they will need to pay. For a team to take on that cap hit and real dollars in a dead cap and lower re ebue covid era is going to cost.

This deal has Wings assume 20 million in cap when they are only paying less than 300000 for on year.

Johnson has given the Lightning 8-9 teams he is willing to be traded to but also told the Lightning if a team who is not on his list is interested to let him know to see if he is willing to move there... from an article by Joe Smith at The Athletic. There are other rumors that the Lightning have some preliminary deals in place to move players but they are trying to figure out their best options.

Steve Yzerman gave Tyler Johnson that contract so I don't think it would be out of the question that he would be willing to take Johnson on his team, I will not speculate on what the deal would look like though, no one really knows.

I see this rationale a bunch on this site and it’s utterly flawed. If this was the case Yzerman would’ve traded Abdelkader/Nielsen to Edmonton and players wouldn’t be bought out. Players values change all the time and team’s are in different stages. Detroit is rebuilding while Tampa is contending and has been contending when that contract was signed. Some contracts aren’t meant to age well as they receive the most benefit typically in the first couple years.

FIRST JOHNSON ISN'T WAIVING FOR DETROIT.

SECOND JOHNSON ISN'T WAIVING FOR DETROIT.

ZETTERBERG DOESN'T COST THE WING'S ANY CAP. SO THERE IS NO REASON TO TRADE HIM.

He was already paid the final $1M left on his contract so Detroit is the same with or without him. I included a link you guys might want to read. PLEASE READ

Now everybody say it with me once: ZETTERBERG DOESN'T COST THE WING'S ANY CAP. SO THERE IS NO REASON TO TRADE HIM.

One more time. ZETTERBERG DOESN'T COST THE WING'S ANY CAP. SO THERE IS NO REASON TO TRADE HIM.

Johnson tough to move with 4/5 years left on term...yikes... Palat only 2 yrs at decent cap hit... Don't see wings touching Johnson unless it's a massive haul of multiple 1sts or/elite prospects...palat is the real target likely at a 1st in 2022 &/or mid prospect easier deal to make for both sides

Yeah but Palat is still a great two way player and a decent goal scorer (can be a great one as shown in the playoffs) and point producer. I doubt he'd need anything attached to him since its only two years, and most teams would want him as an addition to their team.
