What the RFAs need to take to repeat

Description
Do they really want to leave to make big money one year earlier? Plus the NHL’s proposal is 20% Escro plus the initial 10% deferral and now asking for another 16% this upcoming season. That’s a total 46% of the players salaries for this upcoming season so why get a big contract this season. The NHLPA I don’t know what leverage they have because the owners don’t really have a revenue stream with games in empty arenas and they’d be losing money. And I don’t think the players want a lockout and not get paid at all. There’s also state taxes on top of that. I’d think they’d want to try to repeat and stick with this team.

It's not the players job to figure out how to make the puzzle work. They are entitled to get what they are worth.

True but at the same time some of them are dedicated to winning and they know that in order to have the best chance to win, they will need to make personal sacrifices.

They make personal sacrifices by blocking shots, losing teeth, breaking bones, and playing through injuries in the playoffs. Stamkos, Hedman, Vasilevskiy, Kucherov, and Mcdonagh didn't make personal sacrifices. They all got paid.

Actually out of those 5 guys only Vasilevskiy and maybe McDonagh got their market value when they signed.

It’s easy to say someone needs to make a sacrifice when it’s not your money.

I mean it’s up to them 100%. But it’s almost impossible to pay them what they’re worth this offseason. If Brisebois can do some maneuvering and with the expansion draft they’ll definitely get paid next offseason that’s why I put them as 1 year deals.

Ofc but who’s really getting paid what they’re worth this offseason. Hoffman can’t even get what he’s worth and he’s a consistent 30 goal guy. If he takes less this season it’s not necessarily managements fault or the players fault

There’s no guarantee that Seattle takes a high dollar guy though and TBL doesn’t have any big dollars coming off the books until Palat. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.

yeah. If someone takes a team friendly deal GREAT, but NEVER assume someone will or be upset if they dont

The other thing to consider, are all these guys guaranteed to stay? Cernak for example takes less than half of what he's worth on a bridge for another chance to win. Next summer rolls around he asks for 6 x $4m, and he's dealt (to a CDN team with higher taxes) because Serg and Cirelli are getting paid big $$, and Johnson is still on the roster.

As much as TB wants to keep these guys, there's never a guarantee.

There's absolutely noway either Cirelli or Sergachev are signing for $3 million each, I see Cirelli coming in at slightly over $4 million and Sergachev signing the McAvoy deal 3 x $4.9M more or less.

The Bruins offer a good look at what TB can expect to pay with their 3 RFAs (and I’m pissed that I didn’t think of it earlier). McAvoy-Sergachev is a perfect one, DeBrusk-Cirelli, and Carlo-Cernak. All bridge deals and at a number that both sides were happy with. Cernak might not get quite Carlo’s but close and Cirelli might get a touch more than DeBrusk so it washes out. Add it up and it’s about $11.5 mil for a team that’s already at the cap.

Looks like RFA #1 signed for pretty close to market value. I don't think the other two will do any different.

Now that NYI got a "get out of jail free" card. Tampa is the team to watch.

(lot's of teams have to clean up around the edges, but Tampa still has a bunch of work to do)

I'd guess Killorn. They could afford to sign Cernak now that Sergachev has his contract if they move Killorn. He is also on a smaller deal than Johnson or Gourde. Plus he doesn't have a full NTC. I hope they can trade Johnson (with sweetener(s) and Killorn and sign all their RFA's to 3 year deals. That would be fantastic. I wouldn't be against trading McDonagh either as long as they don't have to retain more than 750k.

Boychuk retiring is 110% the perfect scenario for New York.
