So the wild are going to agree to give up the better player and take on 5.5 million this coming year for a 6th rounder? Also being stuck with term from kerfoot. I can’t see the wild doing something foolish like that.

Lots of Wild fans post some pretty short sighted ideas. Bonino will likely be flipped at the deadline for picks or expansion draft exempt prospect(s). Guerin made a bunch of moves to navigate the draft, he's not going to take on a guy he's going to need to protect unless it's someone worth exposing Erickson Ek or Dumba over. Kerfoot isn't that.

Did you read my post yesterday? It's actually to prepare for the expansion draft

The short sighted "we won't have to play Rask 27 games in a meaningless season to meet exposure requirements"? Yep, as I said: short sighted. Trade Bonino for futures, Kerfoot doesn't do anything to turn this team into anything, a 2nd round pick might.

So you'd rather go for a late 2nd round pick at the deadline at the cost of losing one of Greenway, Soucy, Talbot or Kahkonen?

What does that have to do with anything...?

They likely protect:
Parise (NMC)
Zucc (NMC)
Suter (NMC)
Brodin (NMC)
Spurgeon (NMC)
Fiala
Erickson Ek
Dumba

For goalie, ideally they protect Kahkonen but who knows how well Talbot will do playing behind a good defense.

Greenway, Rask, Hartman, Soucy, and (ideally) Talbot get exposed.

That's exactly what I'd expect/prefer too. But in swapping Bonino for Kerfoot, we can play Kerfoot in the top-6, hope his numbers go back to where they were when he was in Colorado, then leave him exposed in the expansion draft (with the small advantage of him being under contract, helping fulfill the E.D. requirements without needing to use Rask then) with the belief Seattle will select him instead of Greenway, Soucy, Talbot (or Kahk). I'd gladly miss out on the potential late 2nd round pick we could maybe get for Bonino at the deadline if that means we don't lose any of the aforementioned players that could be more important to our future. This isn't "I want Kerfoot so we don't need Rask," this is "try to use Kerfoot to save players I'd prefer the Wild to keep."

Here's the thing from my perspective: if Greenway finally shows some consistency, they're not taking Kerfoot over him and if he doesn't, Seattle can have him. Soucy was good (but not great) in a top 4 role, but not anything they absolutely need with Addison and Menell (who I think will be back if he's good in the KHL) under team control. Talbot? His contract was bad before the ink dried, so we're lucky if they take him.

I'd rather the Wild get whatever futures for Bonino to give them more draft currency to use or add to a package to trade for a 1C. He's a proven 3C on a Cup winning team, that will have value at the deadline.

I'm curious where Kaprizov will fit in the lineup, because as far as Greenway goes, I could see him being pigeon-holed into 3LW role next season if Kap or Fiala are on the left side. Not sure what that will do to his value, but I think I'd like to hang onto him. I agree Soucy isn't a top-4 defenseman. I think a lot of people overvalue how the Brodin-Soucy pair played with such a small sample size. I actually don't mind the Talbot signing, however I would've prefer like $3Mx2 rather than what he was given. Thinking Guerin maybe overpaid him so he can protect Kahk and Seattle won't select Talbot.

I guess I'm starting to think our window could open in 2-3 years. I look down the road and if Kaprizov is as good as advertised, Rossi develops into a top-6 center, Boldy can transition just decently from college and we're able to sign a guy like Danault, for example, we could be working with:

Greenway - Rossi/Danualt - Fiala
Parise - Rossi/Danault - Kaprizov
Boldy - Ek - Zuccarello
Foligno - Sturm/drafted C - Hartman?

Suter - Spurgeon
Brodin - Dumba
Soucy- Addison

Kahkonen
Talbot

Scratched: Beckman?, Menell

Looking at that, it'd be nice to hold onto most of those guys I don't want to lose. I just think a 2nd rounder we could draft thanks to a possible Bonino trade could be as many as 4-5 years away. Maybe I'm too optimistic about when we'll be ready to compete, though.
