Aside from having no choice (Marleau), this mgmt group has shown they're not interested in moving major futures for rentals.

So I doubt either move happens.

Nothing against Savard, but his 11 playoff game wins...two playoff round wins in 7 NHL seasons, doesn't scream dlfference maker to me.

I will make one addition. I think if the leafs look like a championship team dubas may pull the trigger on the right piece.

Savard is not that piece and is not worth that price.

Detroit would not have to retain at the deadline anyway. Think Ryan would have what 300k or less owed?

I think a 2nd for Ryan might be the right range depending on how he looks this season.

If I were you I would have taken abramov for a 3rd though.

Wow, both teams retaining 50% of salary on both players.. Yikes!! Good luck!! Even just for 1 year, good luck. Maybe at the trade deadline, they retain half their salary for the rest of year, but not before the season even starts.

And why would Detroit sign Bobby Ryan and trade him b4 he even plays a game?? For a weak “C-“ “C” prospect and a 2nd round pick(probably a late 2nd round pick). And retain 50% of his salary??

And Mikko kokkonen is alittle bit of a better prospect. But not much. But the 1st round pick has value. Just Probably not that much to Carolina who is a play-off team.

Lol. Ok, that makes sense now. Ya, at the trade deadline Detroit would probably be willing to trade Ryan and retain money if they arnt in contention. And same with Savard and his expiring contract, if CBJ are out of contention, like you said. I think a 1st is too much then at the trade deadline for Savard.

I love the idea of getting Savard at the deadline, but that's a a huge overpay I agree.

Toronto is way overpaying for Savard here but wow that's a horrible reason to not want a player. Is McDavid not a difference maker? Or how about Matthews?

I don't think it's a horrible reason at all. Seems like the Leafs are just giving away a first rounder for a rental player who isn't going to make any difference in the Leafs fortunes this season.
