I think Red Wings would have to add, but it doesn't make sense for the Red Wings to trade for Laine. We would make more holes trading for him and set back our rebuild strategy of building through the draft.

If Winnipeg ends up trading Laine, it won't be just to massively downgrade their deepest position. The Jets will only move Laine if they can upgrade a position of weakness.

I think the Jets have shown in the past (Kane, Trouba) that even if a player demands a trade, as long as they have their rights they will not make a trade for the sake of making a trade. The Jets are going for a playoff spot right now so I think any trade needs to answer the question "Does this make the Jets a better team right now?" with a yes.
