Two questions, what source is saying this, and why aren't you a fan? Looks like it fills up the Kings Top 6 nicely,

It's a 48 game season and if we can get another lottery pick we can get Brandt Clarke or a high caliber RW.

Even with Hoffman and Duclair it doesn't make the Kings a contender so what's the point?

I guess more playoff experience, but most of the youngsters won't be on the Kings yet.

You can trade them at the TDL and get a crap ton of picks!

I see, I definitely get pursuing lottery picks while you're a basement team and even with Hoffman and Duclair, the Kings aren't quite playoff shoe-ins. Dallas and Philly got Heiskanen and Patrick respectively finishing with non-top 10 picks. I think it's good for the Kings to develop around some semblance of structure though. I don't think last years roster was really conducive for strong development.
