Description
Not every team will be able to afford cap dump trades. Therefore, this far fetched idea could become a reality. Here is the analysis on each move:

Tyler Johnson trade: Quite simple, actually. Cap dump trade to a team that could afford it, and they don’t have to give much up.

Killorn trade: Package him along with a good prospect for a mid round pick. And why not reunite the Foote brothers.

RFA contracts: They all sign deals that put them into their primes where they can make a lot more money when the team can find more cap space.

Waiver moves: I don’t see any team being able or wanting to bring in Gourde, so he will have to be placed on waivers to gain cap space. The same thing can happen to McElhinney and Coburn. Again, it’s all because of cap space.

Kovalchuk signing: Very cheap option that could be a deadly asset for TBL. He would be willing to take a very cheap deal to try and win the cup, while also being able to play a big roll in a championship run.

Wings pass,tb in a cap crunch and tj is declining faster then the titanic. It's a first a 3rd and a top prospect or they can keep him

Not enough to move Johnson unless Yzerman wants to help his old team. Highly doubt Foote gets moved, they only have Cernak on the right side and he's on ELC, they'll keep him.

Detroit declines, it would take a 2021 1st round pick plus a 2nd round pick or very good prospect to move Tyler johnson's contract.

Not even close to enough to move TJ. Pure fantasy. He has 4 years left. There are a lot of sellers and almost no buyers, so it is a massive buyers market. I would be surprised if they can move him at all. Killorn will also not be that easy to move either. Tampa will be losing good players.

I agree but it doesn't matter because Johnson isn't waiving for Detroit.

They have no depth on the right side like you said. The best player out of the 3 RFAs and is Sergachev but with Hedman and McDonagh they can put anyone there and not worry to much. But if it were up to me I'd keep Sergachev over the other 2 and figure it out as I go.

Ok the thing that makes this the most unrealistic to me is the RFA signings and the reason is this: the NHL wants to renegotiate player salary. If they are successful then players will only receive about 55% of their salaries. That means if Sergachev signs at 4 Mil like proposed he will only receive slightly over 2 Mil. The players are all already thinking about that so they will probably want their full worth on their contract so that IF the NHL is successful then they are basically just taking a team friendly deal. If the NHL hadn't come out and asked for pay cuts again or the RFA's had already signed thos contracts or this was any other year, those contracts may have worked out but they do not.

Johnson might agree to a trade, because it better than possibility playing in Syracuse. But as you say, 5m X 4 is way too big a cap hit for any team to absorb for a declining player

That's why I thought Buffalo would've been a good option but that don't have the cap.

It's not so much the 21/22 season but future years. Even the Sabres could have cap issues in 22/23 when Dahlin gets a potentially big raise to 7m from his current 925,000. The Sabres have a "wasted" 15m in long term cap with Skinner and Okposo.

Well that's what I though before they signed Hall. I was thinking a new team pair him with a couple of younger players and you never know. Look at Hull toward the end of his career Detroit had him playing with Datsyuk and Zetterberg it was The 2 Kids and an Old Goat line.

I think the devils accept that but two things: does Killlorn really want to be here for the next 3 years, and can you really consider shipping out call foote just so you can sign sergachev for $6mm+?

I feel like theyre better off just keeping most of their roster intact and trading sergachev for a king's ransom.
