Staal is the worst Dmen Detroit have and he won't play on the first pair.

I’d play Merrill and Gagner over Staal and Erne.

Staal at best will be on the bottom pairing for Detroit, Honestly when Danny DeKeyser was out the top pairing of Nemeth and Hronek was pretty solid. So i'd say Nemeth-Hronek top pairing 2nd pairing Danny DeKeyser-Troy Stecher and 3rd pairing Marc Stall-Jon Merrill.

Staal sucks and Yzerman should of gotten something better/more than a mid to late 2nd for taking him off the Rangers hands.

I still don't know why Erne was resigned. Smith looked better than he did last season.

At the time of the trade Detroit had only DeKeyser, Nemeth and a couple of prospects on the left side. So Staal did fill a need and it's going to be a shortened season so he won't be in Detroit for very long.

Yeah I know but Ben Hutton and Koekkoek haven't signed anywhere yet so theres still cheap ufa LHD available and still don't think Yzerman should of helped the Rangers out for such a paltry compensation, plenty of cheap veteran LHD out there and he signed Merrill anyway so no need for Staal really.

Honestly I haven't really paid much attention to Staal the last couple of seasons. The Rangers have been really lucky in the draft lottery the past couple of seasons. But there is nothing you can do about it and you can't let bother you too much.
