I would rather have Penguins bring back Bonino at TDL not Johansson. He knows our team and would easily slot in on 3C and he would cost us less to keep and get than Johansson.

I think any trade the Wild make that helps the Pens this year would make it more costly than normal given the 1st round pick from the zucker trade. Even more so if the pens are on the playoff bubble and therefore the lottery.

I think that the Wild will protect Parise (required), Zuccarello (required), Eriksson Ek and Fiala in order to protect their four top defensemen, exposing Greenway and Soucy rather than Dumba.

If he has another down year, I could see the Wild trying to work out a trade that exposes Dumba. Probably not a popular decision but it would clear 6 mil in cap for 3 years for a player that hasn't produced in 2 years. His protection status remains entirely dependent on how he plays.

Dumba would have to have a pretty bad year for Guerin to expose him, although I guess it's also possible Greenway has a breakout year that forces Guerin to protect him. Fiala is a no-brainer and Erickson Ek isn't likely going anywhere given their center depth issues.

This is where I have them also. Unless they somehow land Cirelli (or similar center) then Dumba will be traded/exposed.

Guerin handcuffed himself by giving Spurgeon that awful contract. Zucc's NMC is just as bad, but at least they could have been fine with it in the normal 7-3-1 setup.

I agree it would have to be bad, but two seasons of sub par play at 6 mil is a big deadweight with Addison and Menell in the wings. I also think that if they were considering exposing him, they would have to be getting some form of compensation in return like a pick or two.

Don't feel bad -- virtually every single Mock Expansion Draft I have seen posted this month has Dumba being exposed and selected.

Work has been insane, it's the heating season (I work in energy efficiency) and I just got promoted so life has been hectic in a good way. But thanks for the concern! Not to mention hockey news has been pretty dead ever since the first few days of free agency passed.

As for expansion, I think others have already covered it. We'll likely protect our top 4 D along with Fiala, Ek, Parise, and Zucc. IMO that's fine, worst case scenario we lose Greenway which isn't ideal but not the end of the world. Latest rumor from the Wild is that no teams are offering a top 6 C for Dumba so now probably isn't the time to trade him. May as well keep him and re-visit a trade at the deadline
