I don’t know who everyone is, but i haven’t said montour is bad. Who has? I said he has some red flags.

Don’t pretend that you’ve seen vaakanainen play. You called him a shut down d man not long ago.

I can take a pretty educated guess at what happened here. You didn’t know of a guy. You looked him up. You saw his AHL stats. You saw that he wasn’t an NHL regular, and decided that was enough to cap his career potential.

Imagine if GMs did that with montour. When he was vaakanainen’s age he was at UMass wasn’t he? You probably would have traded him for a 5th.

No i said thats the role hes going to end up in, or hes going to be a career AHLer. Maybe i used the wrong verbage calling him a shutdown dman if that made you conjure up images of someone like Pronger. I didnt mean hes going to be a punishing hitter, clean people out in front of the nets. I feel he will be able to use his skating to breakup plays in his zone and cover the play very well. I also gave you a very fair explanation, so i dont know why youre taking "educated" guesses. I think hes a rung below Jokiharju and I have 0 expectations for Jokiharju to become an explosive scorer. Where has Vaakanainen shown that hes an elite scorer ever. Whos saying that aside from Bruins media. Just because he can skate doesn't mean hes your next top pair PP QB.

Notice i haven’t really given an opinion on him yet. I’m kind of suspicious of him. The tools are there. All of them. Clearly he hasn’t put it all together mentally, or he would be an NHL regular, but all the physical gifts are there. I think that there’s a pretty solid chance he’s exactly what you say, or maybe even worse.

What i think is just utter lunacy is to say that a 21 year old d man is, “topping out,” at a 2nd pair d man or however you put it. There is a long long long list of d men in the NHL that take five years after their draft, and still turn into a really good player. Coming over from europe always seems to take an adjustment period too.

The guy absolutely has super high end potential. However, with every passing moment that he doesn’t take the jump to the NHL, i think the chances of him fulfilling his promise grow smaller.

You did not, as matter of fact you said he was solid.
You and I differ regarding the value of Vaakanainen.
While you have actually watched him live, I can only refer to the reports.
I probably give too much credit to https://dobberprospects.com/team/boston-bruins/
This site does not give him a very high rating so I gave him a C+.
Obviously if you value him higher than that, I completely understand why you would not want to make the trade
"This is a bad trade for both value and need."
So while I think it is fair you do not.
Let's agree that we do not have a deal.

I committed a huge error today, I should know better.
I think my comment supported the trade.
Did you notice, I was attacked by Shibbal18 which would actually make your position even stronger.
I will never make a comment on one of his teams nor one of his posts again.
I will not make this mistake again.

Dude just block him.

I don’t think you’re necessarily wrong about Vaak. I see high potential, maybe not the highest chance of fulfilling it. Tools are there, toolbox is missing.

Seems to be in general a polite conversation, we need to remember we all casual observers and tend to over rate our own players and prospects.
Let's start that it is unlikely the Bruins would make this trade as was pointed out they need LHD more than RHD.
Let me share some fun facts.
Last year Montour was the Sabres best defenseman by far.
While that was only a 20 game sample it does reflect his talent.
This year:
only Ristolainen had a higher TOI than he.
he had the highest +/- of all skaters
only Scandella had a higher PDO than he.

But many good observations regarding his apparent drop in production this year.
Krueger miss used many players on this team.
Rodrigues, Sheary, Miller, Montour, Vesey, Okposo and Montour (and Hutton) all had career worse seasons.
I could add Pilut to the list but this was only his second season in the NHL, then he bolted to the KHL.

Montour is a solid puck moving defenseman who excels at bringing the puck out of his own zone.
In Anaheim most of ZS were in the defensive zone, in Buffalo Krueger had him start mainly in the OZ.
Just one of many ways Krueger miss used players.

He was traded to Buffalo for a late 1st round pick 29th and a prospect probably better than Vaakanainen.
I do not see this as being too much for Montour now.

But if you all want to say Boston does not need a RHD that is fine.
Please do not fool yourselves into thinking he is not worth a late second and a C+ prospect.
He just not worth that to Boston.

I appreciate your long and descriptive comment and you are right: we all must remain freidnly and unbiased.
So when I pointed out the fact that Urho is worth more than Montour, and the other guy called me wrong/dumb/a homer, that was the problem

As you have seen by the comments above mine, its simply true. I like Montour, but a fact is a fact.
You got points boss! But yeah make sure u explain it to the guy who tried antiagonizing me for pointing out a fact lmao
