If we are living in fantasy land I'd rather a better winger than Kappy to play with Matthews.

Also it doesn't make a lot of sense to reverse a trade that was a 100% win for the Leafs.

I am so tired of seeing this stuff. Kadri costs his team's in the playoffs. He had several pounders in the playoffs that hurt his team. He had a lot of points sure but he will always have some warts to his game. Get over it already. Matthews, JT and Kerfoot, Thorton and Spezza is beyond good enough for what they need to do and I think Thorton and Spezza will have some magic moments in the playoffs. They won't be game breakers but there will be moments where they come through at a key moment that helps swing momentum a time or two. At least they'll do more good than bad. What Matthews and the others are going to start doing in the playoffs is producing and then your depth just needs to not blow it. I think the group they have is going to be solid, and not at all spectacular. A lot more down low grinding with those lines. It will create a great contrast to how the top 6 play.

Like Nylander? I love how many people are still griping about Kadri (more understandable but definitely debatable) and Kapanen (He is one of the most overrated players on this site) like they are the difference makers this team needs. "Oh but that one time Kapanen scored an OT winner 3 years ago, and has 3 or 4 points since then." He sucks, "But he at least hits and has a physical edge the stars lack" Matthews was tied with Hyman for the team lead in hits against Columbus.

Yes, like Nylander.

And yeah, that 2 week span that Kappy played with a chip on his shoulder after the Leafs got Clifford seems to have bought him a lot of goodwill with a lot of Leaf fans.

We’ll see how Kappy works out in Pittsburgh playing with Crosby and Guentzel. His speed fits that line nicely!! Remember what happened the last time the leafs traded a super fast player that was alittle bit of an a*s to Pittsburgh. He ended up eating hot dogs out of the Stanley Cup!! I wouldn’t be so quick on that Take just yet. It could age very poorly!!

I love how leafs fans love to dismiss kaps importance to their team now that he’s gone. I can’t wait till he rips 30 next year with Sid and you all look like fools

yeah but kappy didn't lead his team in scoring for 6 years straight

if Kapanen scores 30 idc because we got good return for him, and he was never getting that chance with the leafs

he played an entire season with Matthews/Marleau and only mustered 20 goals and 24 assists - like idk where he's suddenly getting 40 goals with crosby lmfao

we tried him with Tavares and MARNER for god's sake, this year and it was SO bad he absolutely killed the entire line and had to be relegated to 3rd line duty where he scored at like a 15 goal 40 point pace and was a ghost in the playoffs with a first and secondary assist (2 points)

he's also pretty bad defensively, so, have fun guys, I hope it works out but goddamn idk lol

Kadri is not an ideal 3rd line C bc he's all offense. I might send him to WPG for Adam Lowry or Perreault plus a draft pick.

That is a giant leap between Kessel and Kapanen. One of those players is a star. Look at what Kap's speed did when with JT, Marner, Matthews and Nylander.....nothing, he isn't good.

Nope, I've been saying this for much longer. He's a below average 3rd liner. Terrific speed but no clue what to do with it. He played with Matthews and did nothing, played with JT and also nothing. He's a folk hero living off an imagined reputation as an energy guy who hits lots. Doesn't even do that. You will be so disappointed in this trade by mid season.

"below average third liner" good one lol. Meanwhile he was putting up a 60 point clip with matthews in 2018 before Nylander came back. Give Kap some competent centres and he will produce. no wonder you're disappointed with him on a third line with Kerfoot lol

Fair enough!! We will see. I wouldn’t be super excited about Amirov and I’m not disappointed in that price now that it was Amirov drafted at 15. But ok, fair enough!! But he is only 24 years old. And he’s a PK player. So he’s Bad defensively..?? And was one of the only Toronto players with an edge to him. Has a good numbers as far as hits.

That is not true. He had a hot run to start the season and then went 20+ games playing with Matthews where he had 1 goal. He has had several chances to play in the top 6 and never was able to accomplish anything. This is what you'll see with Kapanen, he'll every once and a while get a break away and score and it'll make you feel good and then he'll disappear for games on end. He'll get the puck, fly up the ice and then shoot it from a terrible spot and then not back check. He won't stick with Crosby or Malkin and will end up on the 3rd line. He's just not a good player. His first season in the NHL he was showing flashes on the bottom 6, then started with Matthews and had a hot stretch before completely disappearing. He even got back with Matthews in the playoffs where he did nothing that year. Then last season he started with Marner and JT and did nothing, moved to Matthews line and did nothing and then got in some fights and way too many people fell in love with him. He's defensively terrible, and just isn't a smart player. You will be disappointed. That trade was terrible for the Pens.

And what had Kessel done by 24? A hell of a lot more production than Kapanen. This site is ridiculous, there is absolutely nothing to point to to make a case for Kapanen being a good player. He's 24, hasn't progressed, sucks defensively and despite his reputation of being a physical player with an edge, he doesn't really hit and has had 2 or 3 fights he lost in his career. He's just not good.

I had high hopes for him coming into last season, was hoping he'd be a core piece going forward.

He just doesn't have the hockey sense/IQ to take that next step. He rarely makes the right play once he has the puck in the OZ.

I still like him, but some Leaf fans became infatuated with him because he fought twice, and threw the odd hit.

Best of luck to him in Pittsburgh.
