      OTT declines.

Anisimov could probably net a 4th without having to take back Byron

This is not a difficult decision, Sens would rather have one year with 32 year old Anisimov, than three years with a 31, 32, 33 year old Byron

Besides their age issues, there's the money difference

Anisimov @ $1.5MM salary for one season (cap irrelevant for Ottawa)
Byron @ $9.6MM salary over three years (cap relevant because Ottawa is competing the second and third years)

Then there's the roster spot needed for the influx of youth

Ottawa doesn't want or need LW Byron

I already commented on the last post, but Lehkonen is worth a lot more than a 4th round pick. Why on earth would Montreal trade one of their best defensive forwards for scraps?

It's a trade that doesn't work well for either team. Ottawa is too cheap to take on real salary and AA isn't even an NHL player anymore.

      Cheap versus stupid

It's funny that you call Ottawa too cheap to take on the terrible contract another team gave to their player. The Habs fans know how bad it is, because they have been posting scenario after scenario here trying to unload that contract. You're stuck with it.

As for Anisimov, he has scored at (at least) a 0.41 point per game clip in ten straight seasons, and his last season of 0.41ppg isn't that far off of his career avg of 0.49ppg. That's solid bottom6 production. He's getting paid $1.5MM this last season of his contract, so even if he does declines a little, he's still an NHL calibre player making less than his contributions. The same can't be said for Byron.

I don't know who is trying to "unload the contract" but whoever it is, isn't a real Habs fan. Byron has far more value than just a dump player.

He's worth more to Montreal than they could ever get for him. He's a defensive beast and provides decent 5v5 offense. He's just not great at special teams, but the whole team is pretty trash there.

So would I'd rather a very good 3rd liner for 3 more years or a below fringe NHLer for 1 year?

You realize you can't win a cup with a team full of 21 YO's

None of your post is accurate at all.

Byron isn’t a very good 3rd liner, he’s a decent bottom6, but his production, 10 points in 29 games is closer to 4th line than 3rd line, therefore, Byron is a very good 4th liner.

Byron is 31, so he’s not improving, in fact he’s entering his decline years. What will Byron’s production be when he’s 31 or 32, and then 33? With a cap hit of $3.4MM, that’s just too much for a 31/32/33 year old declining bottom6 winger. There’s too much term. If Byron only had one year left on his contract, he’d be worth much more in a trade. As a player gets into his 30’s, term is bad when they’re declining and make too much for their contribution.

If Byron only had one year left, he’d be worth more than Anisimov, maybe. Anisimov is still a decent player, and should out produce Byron, maybe, no one knows for sure.

On a one year contract, blocking prospects is a moot point, but at three seasons, it’s a negative for Byron if he’s offered to Ottawa. 23 year old Balcers would be the player Byron blocked.

Team full of 21 year olds, this is called rhetoric, an attempt to create an image without proof.

Brady Tkachuk is the only definite 21 or under that will start the season on this team. Stuetzle is a possibility at 19, but he has a European contract he must fulfill. Logan Brown and Batherson are both 22, that’s possibly three players. Chabot and White are 23.

Montreal has Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, and Romanov, as well as Mete at 22, which is more than Ottawa.

Norris, Brannstrom, and Formenton should start the season in the AHL, just like Batherson and Brown did last season.

There’s no point in continuing, Ottawa just isn’t a good destination for Byron.

Imagine your one main argument is a guy who gets bottom six time and top PK time is bad because he doesn't produce points.. bro cmon.

Ok fine, Byron doesn't have to be a good spot for Ottawa, but it's pretty obvious who the better player is, one is a very good 3rd liner that can play anywhere in the team and do well, or a 4th liner who despite being given very little playing time is a still a massive liability.

I don't understand how you can even factor in Byron's contract. It's not like Ottawa will ever come close to the salary cap. He wasn't a full time NHLer until he was 27 so it's not like he has the normal wear and tear a normal 31 YO would have. He should be fine throughout the entire contract.

That’s your problem, you don’t understand. You still didn’t read the post correctly, it’s term, the amount of years left. It’s too long, he doesn’t fit what they need during those years, just move on.

I did read your post correctly, I just disagree with what you're saying. Right now Byron would be your 2nd best LW. He does fit, you just won't accept it.

Second best LW based on which metrics? This is an absolutely silly comment. Ottawa has a rebuild timeline, and Byron doesn’t fit in it, move on.

In what Metrics isn't he your second best LW? That's what I would like to know

These numbers are based on 3rd liner minutes so you would expect some of those stats to drop if he moved up the lineup, but that's a helluva lot better than what Ottawa has.

Paul Byron is so good every Montreal fan here is trying to unload him with extra assets, just to get rid of him.

Okay, Ottawa accepts, because he’s just that good, still not happening because Ottawa doesn’t want him.

Montreal fans are trying to trade him because we really don't need him and Bergevin has stated he wants some flexibility, Habs fans also don't know that we could easily send Weal down if we really needed the space. Look at any stats and you will see that Byron is worth every dollar of that contract. You're right, Ottawa clearly doesn't know talent, so they probably wouldn't take this deal. They gave Colin White 4.75 long term ffs tears of joy

I don't have time for closed minded people that can't see what's in front of them. Welcome to the ignore list

Honestly perfect. Would rather not deal with people like you on this site who can't see facts for facts and would rather be hard headed and think whatever they believe is the truth when in reality it's not.
