Is this a revenge post for the bad Eichel trade? Flames are not doing this.

Hanifin is not much better than Montour, the only difference over the last 2 years is that Hanifin had much a better team:

Sorry but hanifin is far better. Not a good idea for the flames to make this trade. I just really don’t see a good fit for a trade between these two teams since they signed tanev, kylington would probably be a good option. Not quite what you are looking for but could grow with the sabres. Fairly cheap option.

No hes just overrated clearly, or Montour is severely underrated - probably a combination of the 2. The Sabres arent looking for someone that would grow with them (a 23 year old at that), theyre looking for an equal player to Montour but left handed. Mittlestadt for Kylington maybe, but Montour would just play on the left side and the Sabres already have a 7th D so sending him back to the A will do nothing for his development

Issue is that they hanifin and yes, with no bias, he is better than montour.... and I like montour. Mitts
For kylington seems about right. Move montour somewhere else.

Personally I think the flyers would be a good partner. Ghost is severely underrated and his value is low low enough that sabres would be able to get away with a 1 for1 at least. A bigger package could get you sanheim.

Not when ghost is healthy and on his game. He looked very good in the playoffs. Good cap hit and some term.

He played 5 playoff games not nearly enough of a sample size to say anything. He hasn't been on his game for two seasons and appears to be regressing whether that be partly do to injury or not

Apparently he finally has his knee back to 100%. Sure it’s a gamble but it’s low risk high reward. Unless you think montour is going to er sign but that is doubtful.

I would rather have the year of Montour and let him walk than trade him 1 for 1 for Ghost

The risk is the contract 4.5 x 3. That is alot of dead cap to deal with if he does not come back to form, especially considering the Sabres have to resign Hall, Reinhart, Dahlin, Jokiharju and Ullmark next offseason

I hope for nothing but the best for the sabres. Grew up 15 min from Buffalo. But I’m going to be honest, I can’t see hall re signing in buffalo.

Dahlin-jokiharju
Gostisbehere-miller
McCabe-Risto

Would be a solid core. If you you do need cap space beyond McCabe walking you still have the option of moving Risto.

To me getting Ghost who would be no worse than montour with term for cheaper than you could sign montour wouldn’t be horrible. Especially if you could get something extra back and play ghost off as a cap dump.

Would rather play Montour on his offside then have Ghost. Montour is not getting 4.5 AAV unless he has an all star season on a flat cap. If he does then it was worth keeping him even if he walks after the year. If he has a solid year he maxes out at 4.1 or 4.2 for 2 - 3 yrs term max. I doubt Montour resigns unless the Sabres move a couple of right D to allow him to play on his strong side. Even if he doesn't they have 3 - 4 defenseman coming that should be ready to take a couple of roster spots by the 21 - 22 season and it just makes no sense to acquire a player with term unless he is a large upgrade. Which Ghost is definitely not.

Hall resigns if he has a career year and they can dump Okposo, so its plausible. Seattle takes Okposo and Buffalo leaves Risto unprotected

I just don’t see hall re signing, didn’t really see him signing there in the first place so I could certainly be wrong.
