It's more like Matthews doesn't get you those 4 players. Just Keep Matthews. And Tavares. And Marner. And Anderson.
Jackets will continue to build their franchise the way that they have the past 6 years, with draft, develop, and field a team, not a handful of "superstar" players.
And the Leafs can just continue doing what they do, which is trying to squeeze a whole team around 3 huge payrolls at the expense of other teams with stupid trades like this.

In what world does a top pair d man, a unproven goalie, a top 6 forward and whatever the **** Riley Nash is get you a franchise center, you try this post with any other top 5 center in the league like Eichel or Mackinnon and those teams will rip you apart. Columbus adds to that trade. Mathews contract is a problem for Columbus long term but he is still worth more then all the pieces Columbus is sending.

I think this is closer than people realize but it ultimately depends on how you view max domi.
Imo he would thrive as a 2c. You have a potential superstar goalie and a top pairing RHD.
