Should The Leafs Sign Chara

Description
I saw a rumor stating that the Leafs are one of the teams that have interest in Zdeno Chara should he not resign in Boston. Looking at his results from last season, he played a ton of minutes at even strength and faced very high quality of competition. His offensive and possession driving impacts were not good, but his expected goals against per 60 ranked in the 70th percentile league-wide. Given his age, I feel he would be excellent to have in a bottom pair role with Dermott. He is still very effective defensively and brings much needed leadership and grit.

    I wouldn’t completely hate it if he was making league min but I also don’t think they should sign him either way. They have too many defencemen now for him to be useful and I think now with signing thornton spezza and simmonds they’d be in dangerous territory bringing on another older, slower player.

    I’m unaware of these rumors. I don’t think there’s anything worth thinking about out there.

    I really don’t think chara would sign with toronto.

    I think if Lehtonen performs as good as he’s advertised, he will be the #4D by the end of the season. Dermott-Holl on the bottom pair.

    Yeah it’s not good to have too many old guys but I think Spezza, Thornton & chara are still useful in a limited role. But Bogosian & Simmonds are washed up.

    I don’t think Chara is a bad player like Simmonds & Bogosian. In 2018/19 his advanced analytics were really good & he was playing extremely tough minutes. Last season he regressed but his defensive metrics (xGA/60) were still decent. Obviously Lehtonen would be better if he pans out, we just don’t know yet.

    IDK I’m not that high on Bogosian. He had a decent playoffs but he’s been historically pretty bad in WPG & BUF.

    Yes I think they should! I don’t think sandin should play in the NHL next year I think he should take one more year in the AHL get top line minutes and put on some weight. Chara would be a good cheap addition he can still play at a 5 to 4 Dman and shut down he also has been playing the right side

    TBH I feel the Leafs are already making efforts to become a tough team. Their new additions Vesey, Anderson, Simmonds & Thornton all fit the mold. If they add Perry & Chara, that would finish the project.

    Yes I agree. Even in 2018/19 when he played a top pair role, he was still excellent. I believe if he sees the bottom pair with Dermott or even a top 4 role alongside Muzzin, he’d be effective.
