Valuewise, I don't mind the Buchnevich trade. Buch can be a serviceable top 6 forward and the Avs first is likely to be 24th-31st overall.
I think the Avs are good on giving up higher value assets for players as of right now. They believe they have a pretty deep forward squad and I think they already made that type of move with the Toews for 2 second rounders trade.
Sakic hasn't traded any 1st rounders and last time the Avs did, they got a starting goalie in Varlamov. So when they trade 1sts, they go big or go home. Also, that traded pick turned out to be Filip Forsberg, so maybe that also brought a bit of a regretful feeling to the Avs.
