Laine probably wants shorter term or more dough to get his rights out of wpg, jets probably match this also. Your looking for trouble making him your highest paid player, with a tight knit group, this offer sheet also kinda opens the door for the jets to offer sheet barzal

First the jets already have 2 centers. Second barzal gets signed a year before we offer sheet laine. Maybe 4 years makes more sense for laine. They probably match but i can continue to hope.

Vegas is a contender, they’re not trading a young D that finished top 6 in Norris voting this year for anything. And I’ve told you that’s not enough, nor the right pieces, for Ottawa to take on Boychuk, just because you don’t want to give up more doesn’t mean the Sens have to take it, you’ve gotta make it actually worth our while. Plus the Jets match any offer sheet because they’ll get much better value out of a trade than any picks.

The laine piece was more of an extra and you take back the eberle trade. Just because you dont think its enough doesnt mean that they wouldnt take it. As for theodore what i would give up to get him almost anything. BIG Theodore guy and hes on a good contract also 4x$5.2

Every reason you would want Theodore is exactly why Vegas is not trading him, and if we could make all our problems disappear for nothing then every team would win the cup. You’ve gotta make it realistic, and realistically Ottawa declines that offer because we have no reason to help you and the compensation isn’t helpful to us

Noone is giving up a first for Eberle. He is overpaid for what he produces in a flat cap era and he is on the wrong side of 30.

Eberle on a different team would be a consistent 25 goal scorer who is good defensively. Not overpaid at all. As for age he turned 30 a few months ago but youre right hes getting old

He is past those days. He is not nearly the skater and offensive threat he was in Edmonton anymore. I realize most players will suffer in Trotz system production wise, but his drop off offensively is not just a result of that

I don’t think they’d like it but I think from an asset management point of view they’d have to. A 22yo 50 goal threat is worth far too much to let walk for a couple late 1sts, even if you don’t like him for some reason. Someone also has to offer him that and not many teams have the cash to (and the ones that do are bad enough that it would be early picks and thus off the table). Maybe Buffalo?

I just don’t see the offersheet as a valuable tool, with the cost of the caphit plus the compensation and basically overpaying on potential to steal. Leads to some nasty cap situations, if there was a gm going to offersheet at 10.5 x 5 years or less I don’t think the jets could match. Just on small market and throw all budgets out of Wack and any future builds or rebuilds. Kinda a all in moment and not sure if they got it in them.

Its very valuable at forcing teams to take bad deals to keep their players. Look at sebastian aho. Now its ok but at the time it was a bad deal.

For the bad blood and animosity created, not worth it. Montreal will probably never get a deal done with Carolina now, and possibly raised the price for upcoming contracts on Suzuki and kk, and all for a offer easily matched. It does put Carolina in interesting cap situation, but the door is closed on mtl benefiting from it.

True but that is also because theyre in different divisions. Also the point wasnt for mtl to benefit it was for car to lose.

Bothe were 27 at the time and traded prior to the pandemic. At this point short term and expiring contracts are much more attractive to teams than contracts with term on them due to financial uncertainty moving forward. Perhaps that changes moving forward, but at this point players are not being signed to contracts with term and players that have term on their contracts are not being traded

Pietrangelo, krug, and jg signed a 6 year extension and then played only 7 games before the shutdown. You think lou didnt know what was gonna happen? Really! He didnt win gm of the year for nothing.
