wouldn't expect CBJ to make this trade anyway, Dubois is their guy, and Jones is really good esp for their system/team

honestly, if I was either teams I'd do this. Matthews gives CBJ a terrifying scoring offense alongside Bjorkstrand and Atkinson, TOR gets a young, powerful, physical two-way center which, imo, has a way higher ceiling most anticipate.

Any less and the leafs say no. Possibly even decline this trade.

Any trade for Matthews will cripple the other team. That’s why players like this are not traded.

To the last point I say that Matthews and Dubois are the same age. Matthews has a higher ceiling than most people anticipate. Most people seem to think he has already.

No, it isn't. If you want a guy whose gonna be in th3 convo for best player in the league for the foreseeable future you need to drastically over pay. This is not that.

Oh, and just for fun, despite being the same age and draft year, Matthews has exactly as many reg season goals as PLD does points. This isnt to say PLD is bad, it is to put into perspective how crazy good matthews is.

Well #1, a 23 year old Malkin had accomplished MUCH more than a 23 year old Matthews. It really isn’t even close. Multiple hart nominees, a scoring title, Stanley cup, conn smyth, Calder, etc.

Jones is clear cut better than werenski. I find werenski overrated. He’s an offensive D propped up by Jones. Getting a #1C in return plus a #1D PLUS a first is a really good deal for Toronto. Sure Matthew’s is better than PLD. But is the gap Jones and a first? Absolutely not

Both teams decline - super star moves like this are unlikely and if they do happen it’ll be absurd situations that we likely won’t see coming and one team will regret

Everyone above is arguing about - terrible for jackets - terrible for leafs. That means values close but in the end the jackets don’t NEED to move jones or PLD so why gamble plus adding a first and for the leafs you have a super star who’s a “franchise”
Type player on a team trying to win now, no need to gamble him away and he puts up 50 goals next year and wins individual accolades

You’re saying people are arguing over which side it’s terrible for which means the value must be about right. That could be true in some cases, but it’s entirely different when one side is biased and the other side is impartial.

What is ridiculous are people, de-valuing Leaf players, since they are Leafs. When fans of other teams trade for star pieces from the Leafs, they offer assets that don't hold as much value as the superstar. However, when Leaf fans try to trade for an exceptionally well player, we need to offer a kings ransom. That package gets you Marner, not Matthews.
