Why give up a 2nd round pick for Fleury who you'll just lose to Seattle in a season? Can't even do something funky like the 8 skaters and a goalie protection because you traded away everyone who might meet the requirements for the 1 minimum defenseman exposed.

You do know that leafs could add players to meet criteria for eligibility right?

Not that I agree with any of these trades....

Not with their cap situation they can't. Any space that goes towards something like this comes out of making the moves they actually need to be making at the trade deadline and they'll already be paying a premium to make them.

Sorry my bad every team can do this but the leafs because cap space.

Absolute stupidity. You do realize they could just extend bogo or lehtonen right? Or trade for league min contracts....

People make such an incredibly big deal about the expansion draft for no reason. In reality the leafs would probably just let Holl or engvall go to Seattle but they certainly aren’t painted into any corners.

Every team can do it including the Leafs, you just pay a premium to do it during the offseason (what will be a very short off season too...). If the Vegas expansion is anything to go by, you'll be trading a 2nd-3rd round pick to do it and given the added stress of the shortened offseason its more likely to be the former. The problem with the league min contracts is that not many NHL defensemen who meet the requirements make that much.

The Leafs would let Holl or Engvall go ... except the OP traded them both. Thats the problem.

Basically you paint yourself into a corner by leaving it for later and will have to pay a premium to get yourself out of it. Thats doing a terrible job as a GM.

People make a big deal about it because if the Vegas draft showed us anything its that unprepared teams get massacred. Something about those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. A team led by you would wind up being the next Florida.

Funny we just filled our goalie requirement for.... nothing!

Maybe you just skimmed through what I read. But I said it is most likely the leafs lose one of Holl or engvall and that I didn’t agree with the trades here anyway. Players to expose for the draft could be had quite cheap. Even at TDL. We are talking about late picks.

There are also many players on league min that could meet the criteria.

Leafs could also simply make a trade with Seattle.

My point is that people on this site make everything a huge deal and it is always either difficult or impossible. Leafs shouldn’t trade Holl and engvall because they are good players. Leafs will certainly reap the benefits of having depth this year. Being worried about having minimum eligibility requirements is ridiculous.
