Not a chance Dallas does that. Heiskanen will be one of the top 5 defensemen in the league here pretty soon.

Dallas says no, puts them way over the cap and they already have other offensive superstars but not too many defensive superstars ( Heiskanen is more important to the team then Marner will be )

clear cut? not exactly. Heiskanen would be a pretty good deal for us (terrible for Dallas), but like, idk, Marner is among the most elite wingers and he's way younger than all of them, trading a guy like that we'd never ever ever replace him, there would be such a huge gaping hole, no matter how many patchwork UFA signings we do

esp. with the title "marner must go" lmfao, it set me off

Yes! The cart again! I love this chart. No reason for Marner to go.

However, Heiskanen is one of the few defenceman I'd trade Marner for. He's only 21, and he's already shown himself to be an elite defenceman.

Marner is underrated on this site (yes I am seroius, let me explain). Maybe his contract is a little high, but people seem to forget how young he is. Just look at the chart. To be fair, I'd do Marner for Heiskanen any day. Heiskanen is better than Makar and Hughes imo.

The Dallas trade is a clear cut win for Toronto, I wouldn't give up Marner for many players, but have to pull the trigger on that trade.

If that trade went down I'd look to move Liljegren for a younger cost controlled forward, and definitely avoid those UFAs (as OP has left zero $$ to handle Heiskanen's sizable raise next year).

Leave some capspace and deal for a UFA FWD at the deadline if need be.

I also don't agree with the title the OP chose.

that's why I said, Marner for Heiskanen I'd consider, because like, yeah Miro is literally a top dman and he's still so young

But still, Dallas wouldn't do that deal in a million years for the same reason toronto wouldn't trade a guy like marner - i.e. WAAAY too high a ceiling

if Robinson and Amirov are as good as advertised, leafs would be absolutely fine on the wing. Sure neither will reach Marner's impact, but a hypothetical top 6 of:

Amirov-Matthews-Nylander
Roberston-Tavares-Mikayev

Rielly-Heiskanen

clear cut? not exactly.

It is a better deal for Toronto. I think they would accept it. You're right though that there is nothing wrong with Marner staying.

Ya, there's probably only about 8 defenceman I'd trade Marner for one-for-one (Hedman, Josi, Carlson, Makar, Hughes, Heiskanen, Dahlin, Chabot), but Heiskanen is one of them.

I don't underrate him but I my formula for position importance is:1.c 2.d 3.g 4.w so an elite winger doesn't get you an elite d unless its a hart/Ross level winger and even then depends on the defenseman. Add in if its a rhd then the value of that defenseman rises even more.

if Robinson and Amirov are as good as advertised, leafs would be absolutely fine on the wing. Sure neither will reach Marner's impact, but a hypothetical top 6 of:

Amirov-Matthews-Nylander
Roberston-Tavares-Mikayev

Rielly-Heiskanen
Sandin-Brodie
Muzzin-liligren

would be pretty damn good

That top 6 is horrible compared to what they have now. I would rather have:

Amirov - Matthews - Marner
Hyman - Tavares - Nylander

The leafs bias is real lmfao. Everyone including leafs fans say this trade is a no brainer.
