My thought process is the Oilers are starved for assets, and having Drai hasn't gotten them far in the playoffs, so I figured an influx of young talent and assets should benefit them.

Ottawa is moving into the contending phase of their rebuild, and Drai in his prime gets them there, sells tickets, and mentors the younger guys

Value is probably way off, but that's my thought process

Value is definitely way off. No chance sens are so desperate to push to compete right now that they send their future away for a guy whos career is half over. They'd blow their load to try and compete for 8th place over the next 2 seasons to then have to start rebuilding all over and likely have to trade LDrai just to recoup more assets. Hes gonna be a lifer in EDM. at least wont see him move until the last year or 2 of his deal.

Draisaitl’s career is definitely not half over, but at 25, his prime is nearly over, and his quality years are half over.

I like Draisaitl, he’s a special player, but I’m not trading away 6+ years between him and Stuetzle especially when Stuetzle fits Ottawa’s compete timeline and Draisaitl doesn’t. I’m also not including Tkachuk, Thomson, and two good picks, but...

If I were to make an offer for Draisaitl, because I thought Ottawa was really close, I’d only include one of Stuetzle or Tkachuk, a prospect like Thomson, and the first round pick. I’m not making a Lindros offer. If the offer is turned down, that’s fine.

Your ideas about trading Drai are good.

Your target team is wrong.

Drai doesnt fix the Sens. And losing this many assets absolutely ****s them.

Can we look at the facts on that comment
Traded messier
Traded Gretzky
Traded Hall
Traded yakapov (he’s a bumb but was drafted first overall)
Traded eberle
Please watch the the Steve dangle draft tree for Edmonton’s biggest trades and you will realize Edmonton has a franchise that gives away anyone truly great
Not saying this particular trade makes perfect sense but never say never

Well holland has a brain so he won't trade a franchise player that could bring us the cup. Unlike chiarelli who traded three of the guys that you mentioned.

At the risk of starting an argument I would just to let you know that list I made doesn’t end there it goes on and on And goes back through multiple gms all I’m saying is you say never but I could put money on him or mcdavid being trade within three seasons especially if they don’t win another cup because it’s not a gm issue it’s a league wide issue if player can’t win with a team or grow intolerant of decisions a team makes even they desire to leave sometimes messier being a major example of that
So I would stick to what I originally said never say never because that facts just don’t support your argument

Karlsson could, arguably, be the best player traded in a while, so let's look at his return

Dylan DeMelo - 25 year old solid bottom pair D - a roster player
Chris Tierney - 24 year old middle6 centre - a roster player
Rūdolfs Balcers - 21 year old B level winger prospect - 2015 5th round pick, AHL team scoring leader
Joshua Norris - 19 year old A level centre prospect - former 2017 1st round pick, 19th overall
2020 conditional 1st round pick
2019 conditional 2nd round pick
2021 conditional 2nd round pick

two roster players
two decent prospects
three picks

None of these players compare to Stuetzle or Tkachuk, even though Stuetzle was drafted with one of the picks, he wasn't in the trade. The pick wasn't supposed to be that high, or expected to win a lottery position.

Taylor Hall, traded twice, return's were

Adam Larsson

and

Nick Merkley
Nathan Schnarr
Kevin Bahl
2020 conditional 1st round pick
2021 conditional 3rd round pick

Mark Stone's return was

Oscar Lindberg
Erik Brännström
2020 2nd round pick

Edit: changed Tierney from 3C to middle6

Yes, but Hall was a pending FA, so was Karlsson, and Stone was close. Drai's contract is set up for the next couple years. That adds a lot of value

Karlsson was traded September 13th, with one year left on his contract. Calling Karlsson a pending FA is misleading since it was an off season trade with a year left on his contract. Granted, 1 year is a lot less than 5 years remaining. This is why I included one of Stuetzle or Tkachuk. If Draisaitl didn’t have those contract years remaining, he’s not getting either of those players, just like Karlsson didn’t.
