I think at this point its one or the other. Matheson looks to be staying in pit as I doubt anyone touches that contract unless he has a really solid season in pit

Great top 9. I'm not sure about Huala but Granlund will probably cost more. Oilers say no, they have no more room for that trade but maybe another team does. I doubt Pens trade Mike Math after just acquiring him. I don't think the D is the best though. And the goaltending is going to really show how good or not good this season after losing Murray, made sense trading Fluery for Murray but can they hit gold for another run at the cup again after residing Murray? I'm actually curious what pen fans think

Why do you think Granlund costs more than that? He's been terrible in Nashville. And unless he gets a lot of PP minutes he won't be much better (offensively) anywhere else, his career 5v5 numbers are really low. His best season produced just 11 goals at 5v5.

Buffalo or any other team isn't doing that.
Matheson for better or worse has to turn it around this year for the penguins to be able to move him.
If he plays well, he probably gets moved either in season for forward help or to seattle who will take him above what else is left in the expansion draft. As we don't have a lot to choose from.
If he turns it around he'll clearly be the best choice on the roster.

If this team wants to win it needs to sit Sully down and tell him to play the youth. They don't have choices anymore.

While I dont see any of those trades happening. I heard Pittsburgh have offered Haula a 1 year deal.

However with the additions of Jankowski and Rodrigues I dont see it happening. As both guys can play a 3c role and for 700k thats fine.

Yeah that’s fair. Since Haula is a natural C I think he’ll be more likely.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the defence is fine. Top 4 is really solid & the bottom pair is much improved from what they had last year (Johnson-Schultz). Trading Murray hurts & it is unfortunate they got peanuts in return.

Yeah Matheson has too much term on his contract and his cap hit is too high.

Thanks for the feedback. Jankowski has potential so it could turn out to be a bargain. Rodrigues has 4th line winger pedigree although I do like his game.

I’m not a fan of bringing Sheary back. I would have rather brought back D.Kahun at 800k.

And the pens aren’t trading C.Sceviour and Matheson b4 each even play a game. Right now, Sceviour is our 4th line RW until ZAR is back and healthy. And if we do make acouple more signings they will bury his contract in the AHL until the deadline when his expiring contract has more value to a team out of contention. Right now we would probably have to give up assets for a team to take him.

ANd Matheson is a reclamation project. Pens are pretty good at turning around young D. We have a good defensive system and if Matheson scores 8-12 goals, 18-25 assists and 26-36 points. Which he is capable of. Especially if the Ceci/Ruthwedel platoon just stays at home and let’s Matheson do all the offensive rushing and all the outlets, all the cross ice passing and the skating the puck through the neutral zone. And They just play solid D and Matheson worries about the offense. And he should get alittle time on the Point on our 2nd PP unit too . Especially if Letang misses any time. If that happens, he will either be selected in the expansion draft or he’s definitely gonna have more value than now, b4 he even plays 1 game in PGH.

I like the Granlund and Haula signing though. I don’t think we can sign both as the roster is now though. I would prefer Granlund over Haula if it was my chose. And Granlund will probably be cheaper too. I

I just saw an article today saying we could sign Craig Anderson to be back-up and to a cheap 750k-1M one-year deal.

We traded Murray at the worst time possible. Not only a flat cap year. But we had no leverage. Everyone knew we couldn’t hold onto Murray at 6.5M a year and sign Jarry with the flat cap and if we did, one would be selected in the expansion draft anyways. Plus all the goalies this year on the free agent market. It was the worst time possible
We could hav traded him. And after a average year too!!

I also said from the beginning that we were gonna to get a 2nd round pick and prospect. But I thought we were gonna get a “B”, B+” prospect and not a “C”, “C-“ prospect like Gruden. Gruden is like Joey Anderson. But not as far along, and younger. He’s a bottom 6 forward, energy guy, tough, fights for pucks in the corners and has alittle bit of a scoring touch. I think if we would’ve gotten S.Pinto or J.Davidsson, that would have been good value for a 26 years old All-Star goalie that has won 2 SC’s, making 6.5M a year and coming off an average year. Or I would have wanted D.Batheson or A.Formenton(who are probably A- prospects) and the 2nd round pick. But I knew we weren’t gonna get a 1st round pick b/c of the situation and we had no leverage. Like I said, a 2nd round pick and a “B”, “B+” prospect would have been good value.

I’d rather just keep Sceviour over signing Sheary and keep the right handed shot. I doubt the trade Matheson before the TDL and only trade him then if he has an amazing season in PGH

Love it, fills out the necessary holes that are there on the team. Plus it gives room for the RW to fluctuate up and down the lineup. Rust, Kapanen, and Granlund can all play on a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd line. Not sure if they'll offload Matheson though.

I don`t want Jankowski or Rod as my 3C. Thatst the 3C of a Detroit or bottom feeder team.
