Are larsson and heinen not worth more than shattenkirk?

In pure value, yeah probably. I think contextually though they would rather Shattenkirk. Larsson is capped about where he is now and is expendable with the amount of similar caliber LD guys. Heinen's ceiling seems lower than original. Given the LW depth, I dont see a place for him either. Shattenkirk appears to have more of a long term fit and thus the ducks pay for fit rather than pure value

Pens would never do that. You don’t have to treat rusts value like last year, which was a PPG player, but he’s certainly worth more than a fringe NHLer and a 2nd

Seattle is probably going to have a stacked d-core regardless, Shattenkirk may not be high on their priority list

Just let SEA take Shattenkirk if that’s what they want. Ducks could throw the bank at Hamilton if he doesn’t re-sign in CAR.

It's gonna be like Vegas. Draft too many defensemen, trade them for value, and get some top prospects and maybe even top players with that.

Also, I like the Avs deal, except they may have to pay a little more for it. That deal would give the Ducks some depth at forward, a solid young forward in Bowers, and the Avs an further solidify their top 6.

This! I like Shatty and all, but am more than content if he's just a 1 year band-aid, and ends up getting by Seattle. Lots of free space next summer, with nobody major to resign (Aside from Getzy...2 years @$5.5?).

That leaves the payroll at about $63 mil. If you can't get Dougie, then take the retool a bit farther, then offer some temporary salary relief to some teams that will still need it.
