I doubt Detroit would want to trade Stetcher after just signing him. Doesn't paint the organization in a good light for free agents, which is even more important considering how bad the Wings are.
Also, Detroit's not going to help out a division rival without a massive sweetener. Cernak is a few years younger, but I don't think the gap between the players is enough incentive for Detroit. Tampa has no leverage whatsoever because of their cap situation.

Detroit passes, We're not trading Stecher after just signing him. And he's signed to a very good deal so we're definitely not retaining on him.

Although these scenarios aren't likely, it does highlight the very problematic cap situation Tampa is in this year. They are relying on players to waive a NTC to be moved, or face losing some very good young talent, and because of the flat cap and so many teams being tight to the top, they are at the mercy of teams with cap room, and they will ask for sweeteners on even really good players. Tampa won't have much of a choice.

Yep, those type of deals might be the only way. I don't think Stetcher would mind at all if traded the Cup Champs. Tampa might get more in the trades, but there are very few teams that can take on cap, without sending back to the Tampa. I kinda think Killorn M NTC would not include a poor LA team, but he is could be traded elsewhere...maybe Dallas or Colorado

At this point Brisebois is probably thinking (with a half dozen teams over the cap and no other teams willing to take on salary) Bettman will pull some kind of rabbit out of a hat to save them from dropping good players as the Bolts aren't the only team in a pickle and this isnt a good look for the league!

Yeah that would be a real tough conversation..."Sorry Troy, I know you were looking forward to 2 years of losing in Detroit, but we have to send you to a contender in Florida..."

You're missing the bigger point here. Maybe Stetcher would be happy with the trade, maybe he wouldn't. What this would say to other potential free agents is that Detroit may not honor a contract that you just signed, and that they can't be trusted to keep their word. "Just finished moving in to the area? Pack your bags, we're sending you out. Move again." "We promised you a 2nd line role with powerplay time? We promised someone else that they would have some stability here and we flipped them less than a month into a two year contract. Why would we keep a promise to you?" Those implications are far more damaging to a GM's reputation and would make signing other free agents way harder. Not worth it in the slightest.
