First Shot at Expansion Draft for Seattle Kraken

Créé par: OldNYIfan

Description
Tyson Jost and Frederic Allard are additional compensation for allowing Colorado's and Nashville's defenses to remain undisturbed.

Note that the tabs all depict players' status as of 2020-2021, so each has one year less than the number shown. (Thus all the centers, for example, need to be re-signed before the start of the 2021-2022 season.) Despite the notation on his tab, Jake Allen is signed for two more years.

The defense has promise and the goaltending should be adequate but boy that forward corps sure doesn't look impressive.

Let me hear from you if you want to discuss why certain players are available (i.e., who I protected for each team). I'm particularly interested in hearing from St Louis adherents about their personal thoughts on the Blues' anticipated protection list.

Nope.

I went 8 and 1 with my Kings, so virtually all the young forwards are exposed.

What happens to the 10 or so, assuming Seattle signs some ufas, that have to be sent to the minors that are no longer waiver exempt???

For example Siegenthaler doesn't make the 23 man roster....

You can protect 7 forwards, 3 defenseman and one goalie OR 8 skaters (forwards+defenseman) and one goalie. Not 8 forwards, plus 3 D+1G.

We're agreed on Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Lucic (NMC), and Dube. The question is whether to protect Bennett or Mangiapane. Of course, if Lucic agrees to waive, then the question doesn't arise.

Blues will depend on Schwartz and the health of Tarasenko, but assuming they protect both it’ll probably be:

1. Tarasenko
2. ROR
3. Schwartz
4. Schenn
5. Thomas
6. Kyrou
7. Perron/Sundqvist

1. Parayko
2. Dunn
3. Krug

You got me. Maybe there's some fine print in the expansion rules about this, since by definition it's virtually impossible to draft someone who is waiver-exempt (first- and second-year players are automatically exempt from the expansion draft). I note that only 7 of the guys on this team are waiver-exempt this year, so I assume that expires with the 2021-2022 season.

Brilliant for a first try, but I think they should go after Tyler Johnson if he were to be asked to waive his NMC.

He doesn’t have a NMC, so they can select him no problem. But Tampa Bay would have to pay a pretty penny for them to pick him.

I think you nailed it pretty good, my only thought would be some of the crazy contracts out there maybe asked to pick to get some teams out from under there crazy bad cap situations. Vlasic/burns, okposo/skinner, or a variety of other places. Kinda like the retool Florida did before last expansion draft, but near impossible to predict. Maybe the 10 million tender out of Florida for an umpteenth retool.

I can see the Avs offering an extra piece to steer Seattle in a direction they deem desirable, but it probably wouldn't be Jost and Compher. That just leaves them a bit thin down the middle and doesn't shed enough salary to sign a replacement.

My inclination is they would be okay losing Graves but will do what it takes to keep Toews, Girard, and (obviously) Makar. Maybe they send Graves and one of Compher or Donskoi to Seattle and get a pick back.

Just a guess.

I’d think you can do better than Erne from Detroit. He wouldn’t have been resigned if Yzerman didn’t trade a 4th for him IMO. I was thinking Lindstrom but you already have a ton of defencemen.

I could see compensation added for them to take some bad contracts, but for just selecting players it’s a solid team. Well done!

That's my guess for the Wild, the only other really viable option being Soucy if he has a good year.

My thinking here is that Colorado is so strong in their top 6 that they would prefer to keep a defense of Girard, Graves, Johnson, Makar and Toews, plus Byram and Timmins coming up, intact and just fill out the bottom 6 with ELC's or cheap free agents.

Your logic is fine. I think they'll want to keep one of Jost or Compher, but they can recover if they don't. A lot may depend on how Jost does this year. If he takes a step toward being a legit 3C then he may be a guy they want to keep. If not then maybe they give him a chance to start fresh. Seattle would be a good place for that. The other factor would be what guys like Bellemare or Calvert cost to keep.

Definitely an interesting off season coming up. I'm hoping to do a full Seattle mock at some point too. It's easy to focus on one team and say "he's the best player exposed so he'll be taken" but there is obviously more to it. Appreciate that other folks are ahead of the game so I can see how others see it going
