Out of curiosity, what do you think fair value for Johnny hockey is?

Flames fans overvalue him. Everyone else undervalues him. There’s no middle ground

His value is astronomically higher than what he is worth right now, if that makes sense.

Are you saying he’d be worth more if he performed better? What I’m asking is what a fair trade for Johnny is. Remove cap issues and make it all about assets. He’s not Liane. He’s not Stone. But he is a great scorer on a decent contract. What is that worth?

I feel like an NHL role player plus a good pick/prospect package sounds about right. So Drouin plus a 1st sounds reasonable? That’s a top 6 forward and a 1st for a top 6 forward.

Hes one year removed from Hart contention, he is not just a top 6 forward. Its hard to place him because he didnt have a great season but you seem to value Laine pretty highly and you gotta remember one year ago he had an awful season, Johnny will have the same type of resurgence this year. Gaudreau is one of the best LW's in the league so you have to add someone you wouldn't ever part with to get a Gaudreau trade to work, if that makes sense.

I like Gaudreau but the 2 year term combined concerns me

I value Laine higher than JG because of his age, I agree they are similar in terms of production and skill. A fair Laine deal for me is a top 6 forward or top 4 defender, a 1st, and a top prospect, and MAYBE a role player.

My understanding is that they want to move JG because of his playoff performances. Yes his value goes up if he starts to perform there, but if he performs there he stays in CAL. If he continues to score at the same pace and has a bad playoff, his value is less given his term.

I don't think its a value issue, but an issue of whether the team wants to give him up. I think they would take a 85% replacement plus a top pick or prospect if they want to move on from him.

Thats why it has to be a contender that trades for him, hes an extremely competitive person so if the team can prove that they can win in the future im sure he would re-sign. This whole thing about him being linked to Philly is just speculation for the most part, he had a chance to leave the Flames and sign with whoever he wanted but he decided to stay, im sure he would do the same thing again.

I think if anyone was watching the last series against Dallas you could see that he was playing as hard as he could, any reasonable Flames fan would not place the loss squarely on him. Not to mention we lost to the Western conference champs while being one goal away from a 3-1 lead. It's hard to count last year for his value mostly because of the turbulent season the Flames had with the sudden coaching change and the line shifting. I think this year is the final test for this core, alot of people assume the Flames want to move on from him but its mostly just rumors with little to no evidence. This year we've bolstered our depth, gotten a top 10 goalie, and we have one of our best young defencemen playing healthy. If he doesn't perform this year or if were nowhere near the playoffs by the deadline then for sure we would be interested in the kind of deal you're offering.

That also lines up with the little I know. Its really difficult to understand why you would move on from him and like you said, they made some good moves.
