feel like youre undervaluing some of the players here. if im swapping raanta for smith and retaining 50% on raanta, im asking for more than a 2nd

I think majority of these get more at the deadline. Also, assuming that these dont all happen because only 3 players salaries can be retained at the same time

I really don't want Stepan back. He was so frustrating to watch in 2017. I can't imagine what 3 more years of NHL mileage will do to him...

ya I wasn't sure of that but these don't all have to happen or if they do all happen, assume that some of these teams have guys on IR by trade deadline time and therefore have the cap room

Do people care about other teams caps? Flames would be over even with 50% retention

That really depends since this scenario is at the trade deadline. Injuries, other trades, recalls/demotions are all going to be factors. To add Demers at the deadline at 50% (assuming the deadline is 2/3 of the way into the season) the Flames would probably only need about 700k in available space.

For example if there is a scenario where the AHL club plays out of Calgary, the Flames could theoretically paper Valimaki, Dube and players who have recently cleared waivers to the AHL during off days at home and save some cap space.

Replace goligoski with hjalmarsson for Winnipeg and replace green with a guy like Stanley

The jets don’t want goligoski

Raanta would be a great add for oilers at the deadline but smith has a full no trade this will be his final season he’s not waiving for a none playoff team even tho he’ll only be opening the gate in Edmonton

At the deadline, 50% on Raanta is like $250k cash or $500K cap hit. Its not a big deal... but it probably won't be necessary either: if Klefbom is out all year there's a pretty good chance Edmonton will have the space to absorb Raanta's entire cap hit with Smith going back.

He can be demoted to the AHL with about the same net effect. Maybe the trade ends up being Raanta for a 3rd?

They should grab Dell off waivers when TO sends him down and put Smith on waivers

I'd rather snag Adin Hill if (when?) he gets waived. Dell is a tweener IMO, no better than Smith.

AZ is in a pickle with their goalies - they have 3 good, waiver eligible tenders and need to trade one to avoid losing him on waivers. I'd look there for a buy-low candidate.
