Tough to see the TB motivation as it barely saves them $ and they'd feel underwhelmed by the return

Think about the optics here for a second.

The Leafs sign Mikheyev to a team friendly two year deal avoiding arbitration and then proceed to trade him out of town.

Good luck with building trust with current and future players with operation antics like that.

Hockey is a business but, that is just plain stupid managerial procedures.

PS... Both teams decline. It just isn't worth it for either.

IMO Stephenson is better and has a decent and good contract
Kerfoot has a bad contract and VG is in a cap problem as well

Both TB and Vegas decline. Doesn't save too much in cap and Cernak could fetch more

Is this seroius? Coleman is far better than Mikheyev. Cernak is far better than Holl. In my opinion, the second isn't even enough.

Are you asking me if this post is serious? I cannot answer that. This isn't my post.

I am certain that both teams decline though. Of that, I am dead serious.

I am also serious that this would be terrible optics from a Leafs perspective even with the lopsided return in their favour.

The thing is everyone understands Tampa's cap situation. That is why any trades for Sergachev/Cernak/Cirelli will likely be underpayments. Just take the Schmidt trade for example. Although Tampa could likely get more, it won't be as much as everyone may expect.

Coleman is better then Mikheyev yes, but Mikheyev is younger and has 2 years remaining on a team friendly deal while Coleman just has one. That is why the value is a lot closer then it seems. I think people tend to forget that players with 1 year remaining on their deal do not bring back as much as expected.

What I meant is: why do you think this is bad for the leafs when they are getting 2 players that are clearly far superior to the ones they are giving up?

No, I just am remembering how Coleman got essentially 2 firsts, then proceeded to play a huge part in Tampa's cup winning team. His value is more than Mikheyev's. Same with Cernak and Holl. Only Cernak is not a one year rental. So the second makes it up, maybe it's not even enough.

They do, but Cernak shouldnt be a cap casualty...he's probably the one guy who gets a manageable deal

Tampa needs to move cap, not players. Coleman isn't going anywhere unless Gourde and Johnson are going with his. That's what he's worth. His cap hit, his play, he is the perfect player in this economy, Him and Point are Tampa's most valuable assests (Kuch, Heddy not so much for caphit reasons), they're in a spot, however it's not dire enough to move Coleman. especially not for such a junk return.

Yes, you realize I was defending the fact that there is about a 0% chance tampa does it, right? As a leafs fans, I do this easy but it doesn't matter because tampa doesn't.

So if the leafs just signed Thorton, they are going to refuse when Edmonton offers them McDavid? Hockey is a business, you said it yourself. The fact that Mikheyev just signed is irrelevant when you get a bargin like this.

None of that makes any sense because that Oiler stuff is just nonsense on your part.

The offers here so heavily favour the Leafs that neither team would ever entertain them to begin with.

Tampa needs to shed cap, not take on players. You can try and spin it any way you want but...

1. Neither of those teams would accept those offers.
2. Both of those teams need to shed salary, not add it with middling second tier players.
3. Trading a player that has just signed a team friendly deal is bad business.

Why do the leafs not accept if the offer heavily favours them?

Where did I say that it was a "bad trade" for the Leafs. Those are your words, not mine. I said it was bad optics.

I am simply stating that neither Tampa or Vegas would be willing to make these suggested trades. It makes ZERO sense for them from a personnel or a salary cap perspective.

You said the neither the lightning NOR THE LEAFS would accept. Looking back now, I see a bit better what you were saying, I miss understood what you were saying before. My apolgies. I took it as leafs wouldn't do it, now I see you were not saying that at all.

No I did not. Again, you are putting words in my mouth so, please stop that.

I clearly stated.... "Both teams decline". Meaning Tampa and Vegas. The value just isn't there for either team and they both have cap constraints of their own. I said nothing whatsoever about the Leafs not accepting the deals. I said it was bad optics from a Leafs perspective.
