True, although I feel like w Hickey’s term we’d have to give up a substantial amount to get rid of him

Apparently no one. Same seems to apply for pulock, sergachev, Cirelli and Cernak.

Either way not a huge fan of what Lou has done with his past signings. Seems to have no real plan for this year. Tampa doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

his plan is to keep the team in tact as much as possible, He was screwed by the pandemic, like most good teams.

and also any isles fan who hates the lee/pageau contracts just will never be happy. cant please everyone

Well pulock isn’t eligible to receive an OS. The only signings that have been bad since Lou arrived are lee(too much term) and komarov (both AAV + term). Pageau, varlamov , eberle, and Nelson were good signings.

What do you mean he doesn’t have a plan? How would you know either way lol

Not a fan either, idk how tf he won gm of the year. All his mistakes r covered up by good coaching

Lou is an average GM at best, it has not been covered up by trotz. Trotz makes a ton of self defeating moves - the young core players + goaltending is the reason why they’re good. This trotz narrative has to stop lol

He does make self defeating moves yes and I find a lot of his lineup decisions questionable but the system he put in place was rly a life saver for the isles (for them to compete anyway.) if I’m gonna be honest I wish we went through a tear down rebuild after JT left like the rags did. We’d be at the point now where a lot of up and coming rookies would be playing in the NHL and show us a bright future. I feel like right now, the isles future in like 2+ years is kinda dim

The coaching isolates show that trotz system ranks 18th defensively. The isles went from an incompetent coach who didn’t care about structure to a competent coach who implemented a system with structure. Obviously they were going to improve.

I trust Lou to keep the team contending but I do not trust him to rebuild a team and it makes no sense to hire trotz+korn if you want to rebuild. The players that drive our success are young and they have a #1 D and franchise G coming. I see them buying out lee in 3 years.

Also the rangers got super lucky with their “rebuild”. Moved up a bunch of spots to select #1 and #2 overall. One of the best D prospects wouldn’t sign with Carolina and calgary because he wanted to play for the rangers, the best winger in the league wanted to play for the rangers.

Gorton hasn’t made a lot of good moves

Beats me! But there’s teams clearing up cap space right now for a bunch of things. If any of their moves don’t happen an offer sheet for barzal or cirelli could be next. Barzal should get around 10M a year. It’s his value in house. On the market he’d get more like 11m. Especially if he was in a more offensive minded system. Somewhere like Calgary he’d put up 100+ points.

I thought montreal could potentially OS him, they have no cap space. Calgary has no space. The rebuilding teams that have cap space aren’t giving up a bunch of unprotected 1sts for him.

Barzal doesn’t really have a lot of leverage. His comparables are Aho 8.45 x 5 and point (6.75 x 3) and even accounting for state income tax that’s around 7.5 x 3 for barzal. That’s cool to think about that he can potentially put up more points in another system, but he has no rights and the isles control where he plays for at least the next 4 seasons.

They did get lucky partially but Gorton has made some good moves. Strome for Spooner and a lot of his draft picks (namely Nils Lundqvist.) He does have some stinkers tho (Trouba contract lol) but every gm has those

Leo was probably the worst mistake. I would disagree with some of your other good signings.

If he had a plan then it would be done like most teams. He did the exact sane thing to the leafs. Signed a few bad contracts and did nothing of real value to make a plan moving forward.

The only reason pulock isn’t eligable is that he has elected for arbitration. He could have gotten an offersheet before that but like I said, they aren’t happening.

if pulock does make it to Arb it will be a massive failing. Hopefully something gets done beforehand.

I wouldn’t say partially - I think they moved 6 or 7 spots to draft kakko, obviously they won the lottery this season. They lucked into 3 top line wingers and a franchise D 😂

Trouba trade was terrible, don’t understand why they extended kreider for 7 years (thought it was made no sense the day it was signed), signing Jack Johnson .... what I’m saying is luck played a bigger role in the rangers rebuild more than gorton.

There are teams that have executed rebuilds properly, but then you have teams like Edmonton, Buffalo , Florida, calgary , the isles from 2010-12 who had multiple high picks and it didn’t translate into being contenders.

Like I said, I hate some of the moves lou has made , but he’s also made some solid signings like eberle and Nelson. Lee actually lived up to his contract this season, but he’s not going be a top 6 winger when he’s 34, which is why he’ll likely be bought out before than. That’s why I would’ve let him walk and play bellows/ho-sang. The komarov contract was brutal , no defending that one.

I just wish they went with something like this next season

Beau-barzal-eberle
Lee-Nelson-ho-sang
Bellows-pageau-wahlstrom
Dal colle-cizikas-clutter

Pelech-pulock
Leddy-Dobson
Aho-mayfield
