Description
Previous attempt was taking into account no sweeteners. Just expansion draft and free agency.

After the LeBrun article in theathletic, it seems that many teams are desperate to unload salary with Seattle.
No, that should not mean James Neal will be taken for the exchange of a 2nd round pick!
As LeBrun pointed out, a Shea Theodore type return plus more will do it!
More than ever, cap space is an asset!
I wouldn't be surprised to see a team like Nashville go 4-4-1, expose both Duchene and Johansen in the hopes that the Kraken bite. Yet, they don't bite, and instead, go in favour of a stud prospect like Ingram.

I don't expect too many 1st rounders exchanged as ELCs are more valuable than ever! Prospects that are off Entry Level contracts or soon to be given their first contract off ELC will be dealt as incentives.
Alex Edler signs a few miles down the I-5 as a free agent with the Canucks in a cap crunch. Rejoins Chris Tanev. Tanev brothers unite together.
Wennberg, another free agent, signed to be a number 2 center at a small price after buyout money from CBJ and a so-so year in Florida.
Derek Ryan will be signed to a cheaper contract as a 34 yr old UFA to calm center nerves.

James Neal is bought out after Oilers trade Bouchard and Lavoie instead of losing someone like Caleb Jones for nothing in expansion and they get to dump Neil's contract for a short window of contention.
There are few more incentive based trades sprinkled like Buffalo, Colorado

Zero percent chance that the Oilers do that! They will just buy out the last 2 years and move on.

It's better for EDM to keep Bouchard over Jones.
Don't think Buffalo do that, Hall is gone next year and they won't have anyone except Skinner on the LW if they move Olofsson. Best-case, they give a prospect to get rid of Okposo.

I could see Buffalo keeping Hall. They'll be so much pressure on Adams to keep him if Hall puts up 40-50 goals! Olofsson then becomes redundant

Theodore was a much more promising player than Bouchard or Jones. Oilers don't have a choice.
They have to lose something and many teams will want to dump salary as Lebrun has pointed out. It will be a bidding war with Seattle controlling the stakes.
If Seattle does take on salary, it will be an overpayment otherwise Oilers lose Caleb Jones and keep Neal on the roster buyout or not, the cap hit is there and buyouts aren't realistic at this point.

Neal's contract on a buyout goes for 4 more years from 2021.

The choice will be made. Most likely, it will be players lost from a position of luxury. Oilers got a lot coming on the back end. GMs will want to protect their image as much as possible and justify what they do. If I'm Holland I make sure to take advantage of McDavid and Draisaitl right away. Dump Neal! Go for it! Its not like Holland isn't afraid to be bold with his legacy
