Tkachuk and nylander are about equal offensively but tkachuk brings way more to the table.

Wow... so we trade our future captain, heart and soul of the team and best player, current captain and Norris Trophy winner a year ago, consistent best playoff performer and two second round picks for one really good, high skill player, a d-man who can't hit a breakout pass, a 4th line role player, a poor mans Juuso Valimaki and a late 1st. Makes sense

So your proof is to assume to know what other people think and use them as an authority?

You have a hate on for nylander and leafs fans. You are biased... then try to put that in leafs fans.

I love Tkachuk but I don’t want him in Toronto due to his contract and predatory play. He would be suspended most of the season in Toronto. To much of a microspope here. He also is set to walk himself to ufa. Nylander in Calgary is too soft. Doesn’t fit their style of play.

How you don’t think the two are comarable in skill level is beyond me. Both put up simmalar numbers. One is a possession monster and the other is an instigator. They both bring their style of hockey.

if stats were all that mattered about players, arizona would be the best team in the league when they had chyka as gm and the leafs would have won a few rounds too LOL.

Stats do matter but I've always been of the mind that when good teams have good stats its because they're good teams . analytics are overrated imo.

i totally agree. stats are just a good source to use, but the eye test is just as important, if not more important. I mean statistically speaking, Philip Danault is a much better player than Matthews, but anyone with a braincell or more knows that Matthews is much much better. I like the canes for that reason. they use stats well, but don't make the final decision just based off stats. their coach doesn't like it, neither the GM.

I’m talking about the eye test. I trust that a lot more than stats. Nylander surely passes the eye test.

I'm sorry to inform you, but it seems like you're physically challenged. I'd suggest you see an eye specialist. Nylander DOES NOT pass the eye test verse Tkachuk. It's okay though, if you can get your disability of physical eye sight improved, we can accommodate you smile

i mean, according to the numbers yeah lol

the only reason they are remotely close in stats is because tkachuk got more powerplay time (even then nylander is better in most categories), given nylander was on the second unit for most of the 17-18 season, but at 5v5 nylander is literally way better

I can assure you that as a TOR fan, you would be much, much happier if Tkachuk was in your lineup in place of Nylander. He controls games single handedly. From start to finish. Nylander is an elite playmaker. Different styles and skill sets, but Tkachuk brings an impact that very few players in the league can.

Not sure how anyone would suggest he’s a better skater than Nylander though.

im taking tkachuk over nylander anyday. not only can tkachuk score more, but he can skate better, hit better, fight better, play better on the boards, lead better, but is also 2 years younger.

Tkachuk is not a better skater. In fact Tkachuk is one of the slowest skaters on Calgary (almost the entire reason him and Monahan dont play together). However, Chucky has a very high hockey IQ and excellent gap control. Flames still dont touch this trade.

leafs played approximinately 85% of their total TOI at 5v5, but ok, I guess if that's too selective, we can measure across two seasons

between 17-18 and 19-20 (bc nylander had an outlier year with missing half the season etc), Nylander had more takeaways, less giveaways, 6 less shot blocks, way less hits (prob means he had the puck more), more shots on net, drew a greater ratio of penalties than he took (didn't take many at all) esp when you consider a lot of Tkachuk's penalties drawn were because of fighting majors, had 4 more goals, 10 more primary assists, and 4 less secondary assists

oh and he's taken 862 faceoffs and won 51% of them, Tkachuk has taken 21 and won 33% of them

idk do I need to go on lol, Nylander is just as good if not better

Less give aways means Nylander likely had the less. Less hits means Nylander is just the pushover everyone knows he is.

Look at his corsi for and against, he literally has the puck all the time lol. That kind of thing can be measured, and he has it slightly more than Tkachuk, and has way less giveaways

As for hits, if you're hitting a guy, it means you don't have the puck. You're either on the forecheck or trying to stop the cycle in the defensive zone. he's not a physical player lol, but he has more takeaways, especially in the offensive zone. He doesn't need to hit in order to steal the puck back. It's a style thing.
