Ya sorry so i don’t care about whatever underlying numbers you’re talking about. It’s more that thing of him playing hockey. Laughably bad defensively. Horrific. Repugnant. Atrocious. Every time he’s in the playoffs he pukes on himself and teams just start dumping the puck in his corner for easy possession.
Ah yes let’s believe a few hockey games over numbers that have been tracked for every second he’s on the ice. His Goals above replacmant are 5th among dman and his wins above replacement are 5th as well. He’s 3rd in expected offence and 23rd in expected defence. Hamilton has been the best defensemen in the league this past year and his numbers clearly prove it.

I don’t understand why you like hockey if this is the way you, “think.” Just sim it on xbox man. You can get through multiple seasons every day while all of us have to wait.

Cause I enjoy looking at stats as well as watching hockey. Other sports and leagues have fully accepted analytics and it doesn’t take enjoyment away from anyone. Why does me enjoying looking at players stats bother you so much. Analytics allows me to notice stuff I didn’t see when watching. It shows more about each player and how valuable they are. In fact stats give me more enjoyment when watching because they show the stuff I missed.

No. It allows you to stop paying attention, while simultaneously granting you the ability to think you know what you’re talking about.
Hockey is a subjective game inherently. We’re not tracking base hits here. It’s puck battles. It’s decision making. It’s how good a dump in is. It’s puck retrieval. It’s gap control. Stats can’t track that. That’s why the sport is awesome. If dougie Hamilton is an elite d man, the stats are useless.

“Allows you to stop paying attention” how it in no way affects the way I watch hockey. What do you mean “think you know what you are talking about.” Tampa Colorado Vegas all headed by an analytics staff keep thinking that they don’t work. All successful teams use and have used analytics in there decision making. What makes you think stats don’t track puck retrieval, good dump ins and gap control. All of that is tracked as well. Well the eye test is useful and I love watching hockey. Stats only highten that enjoyment as you can see a players all around value. And where do you get the idea that Dougie is a bad d he’s great using both analytics and watching him.

Dougie does not get the respect he deserves. People watch a player make 1 bad pass during the game and automatically think they are bad or something lol. Dougie plays great gap and has a great stick along with strong mobility for his size. People are just to lazy to further their knowledge about hockey so the typical response is to just call us nerds for looking at analytics. You're absolutely right as well that all the good teams have strong analytical departments and it clearly shows in their teams play. Like my favourite team is the Jets and they were terrible analytically last season except for Hellebuyck, and that was clearly backed up by the eye test, it was so hard to watch them this past season. The fact that so many people refuse the thought of expanding the understanding of the game is just beyond me.
