Its just an insurance thing, Dell has to clear waivers to be sent to the minors so hutchinson is there just in case he gets picked up, and its a 2 year deal because they need to expose 1 goalie to the expansion draft that is signed past this year (Andersen and Dell both are not) so Campbell is protected in the expansion draft and the leafs meet the requirements by exposing hutchinson

they need to have two sign goalies for the Seattle expansion draft, could that be it? But I scratch also my head why having 4 goalies when they have guys live Woll and Scott that need ice time.

Scott and Woll arent eligible.
Hutchinson becomes the one eligible goalie to expose.

Ya, Hutch is brought back for expansion draft reasons. They have to leave Campbell unprotected. Unless they signed Freddy or Dell to an Extension. But now they can protect Campbell and expose Hutch.
