Problem is this weakens our PK too much up front. Which forward is playing PK2 with Nordstrom assuming Backlund/Lindholm are PK1? None of the rest of the guys have NHL PK experience and special teams are critical for playoff success. I will say it’s an interesting concept though, and probably what will happen if we really get an experienced 3RD, but we would need a new 4C with PK experience to replace Ryan and make it work.

Monahan mangiapane and simon also kill IIRC maybe get tkachuk or dube to grow as players, its obvious they (the top 6 guys) are part of the problem

I think Calgary has more than enough in house to fill the third pair RD spot with a lefty. Their D and G look good to go so if they were to move Ryan i think it would have to be in a move to further improve upfront

I would love to see Tkachuk (although he is our bench minor guy right now lol), Dube, or Bennett get the opportunity to kill penalties because I think getting higher end players on the ice more is great, but they should be eased into that role as the 5th PKer, not forced to be a mainstay on the second unit right off the hop. Mony and Mang are not PKers, and even if Simon is a PKer (only averaged 14 seconds per game last year, which was 12th among Pens forwards lol, although a few did play less than 10 games for them, it's still indicative that he's like their number 7 option if forced to go to him due to injuries or penalties by the guys supposed to be killing them), I expect he'll be the spare forward on this team, league min isn't a great sign that the team views him as an everyday guy when compared with Leivo, who got a bit more, and Nordstrom, who has experience filling one of our needs. Maybe 4RW if Ryan is dealt and we don't replace him, but yeah I don't even see him as an everyday player necessarily, let alone a PK mainstay.

Literally none of the players you listed played more than 14 seconds of PK time per game last season. If we move Ryan, we need another guy to play close to 2 minutes a game in PK time, I don't think it's wise to just toss someone into that role without prior PK experience.
